Current affairs for TNPSC, bank exams and NEET

By the PrepMatic team · Updated · 55 pages

This section holds short, dated current-affairs notes for competitive exams. Each note covers one event: what happened, when and who was involved, why it matters for your exam, two practice questions with answers, and a link to the official source. The Tamil Nadu notes for TNPSC aspirants currently run from 9 September to 8 October 2026 and cover state schemes and policies, infrastructure, sports, elections and TNPSC notices. Every note is listed below, month by month.

How we pick and source items

We use official sources only: Press Information Bureau (PIB) releases, Tamil Nadu government press releases from the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, TNPSC press releases and notifications, and, for bank exams and NEET, the RBI, ministries and the National Testing Agency. If we cannot find an official release for an item, we leave it out. Where a news report and the release disagree on a number, a date or a name, we follow the release, and we link it at the bottom of every note so you can check it yourself.

The facts in each note come from that release. The "why it matters" paragraph and the practice questions are ours, and the questions are written to have one clearly correct option. Treat an MoU, an announcement or a proposal as exactly that: the notes say "announced" or "scheduled" and do not predict outcomes.

How to revise these notes

TNPSC does not have a separate current-affairs section in the Group 4 or Group 2 prelims. The Group 4 syllabus mentions "current affairs" inside four General Studies units: General Science, Geography, Indian Polity, and Indian Economy and Development Administration in Tamil Nadu. So file each note under its unit, write one line per event, and revise by unit rather than by date. The TNPSC current affairs guide explains a daily, weekly and monthly routine, and the TNPSC guide links the subject pages: Indian polity, Indian economy and Tamil Nadu development administration.

A simple monthly routine works well:

  1. Read each note and its source for anything with numbers, such as amounts, dates and names.
  2. Write the one-line version under the right unit.
  3. At month-end, turn the lines into one page per unit.
  4. Take 25 to 30 questions on that month, and note which units your mistakes cluster in.

Static background, such as Tamil Nadu geography and symbols, is in the Tamil Nadu GK section. For bank exam and NEET preparation, start from the banking and NEET guides.

Frequently asked questions

Is current affairs a separate section in the TNPSC Group 4 paper?

No. Group 4 has Part A Tamil, Part B General Studies in six units and Part C Aptitude and Mental Ability. The phrase "current affairs" appears inside four of the General Studies units, so recent events are asked through those units. Group 2 and 2A prelims use the same six unit titles at degree standard. For Group 1, check the prelims syllabus before assuming the same.

How far back should I revise?

The syllabus does not give a look-back period. A practical plan is to cover the most recent six months first, starting with polity, economy and Tamil Nadu development administration, and then work backwards as time allows.

Why do you use only official sources?

Summaries in newspapers and on social media sometimes differ on figures and names. Using the official release keeps the numbers in each note matching what was actually announced, and the link lets you verify any item. Always check the latest notification or release itself before relying on a date or a fee.
