Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the first International Space Summit in Paris, France, by video conference on 10 September 2026. He thanked French President Emmanuel Macron for the invitation and set out India's space goals, including an indigenous space station by 2035 and an Indian astronaut on the Moon by 2040.

What the Prime Minister said

  • India supports a safe, secure, peaceful and sustainable space domain based on international law, dialogue and multilateral cooperation, rooted in the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
  • Indian rockets have deployed more than 430 payloads from 34 countries.
  • ISRO's milestones he cited were Aditya-L1 studying the Sun, an Indian astronaut's visit to the International Space Station last year, and Chandrayaan-3, which made India the first nation to land near the lunar south pole.
  • India's private space sector is growing alongside ISRO, with start-ups and established organisations working together.
  • France has been a trusted partner since the Indian space programme began at Thumba in the 1960s, and cooperation now spans Earth observation and advanced technologies.
