On 14 September 2026 the Government of Tamil Nadu released the August 2026 pension for 19,71,015 beneficiaries under three National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) schemes. The payment of ₹238.76 crore had to be completed within a short window because of continuous holidays from 11 to 14 September.

What the release says

The three schemes are the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme and the Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme.

ComponentAmount
Government of India contribution₹52.81 crore
Government of Tamil Nadu top-up₹185.95 crore
Total₹238.76 crore

The state moved to the SNA-SPARSH payment system, which needed fresh approvals. The release lists the chain that was completed in a few days: the Union Ministry of Rural Development, the Pay and Accounts Office in New Delhi, special arrangements by the Reserve Bank of India at Nagpur, the Directorate of Treasuries and Accounts, and a special payment window from the National Payments Corporation of India. The state-level work was coordinated by the Directorate of Social Security Schemes, which is under the Commissionerate of Revenue Administration.

Why it matters for TNPSC

Welfare and social security schemes are core content in Unit V, Development Administration in Tamil Nadu. Note the funding pattern: NSAP is a Union programme, and Tamil Nadu adds a large top-up, so the state pays more than three-quarters of this month's amount. See the development administration guide.
