The GATE 2027 admit card date has not been announced; the official schedule lists it as to be announced. What is fixed is the city allotment, which comes on 4 January 2027, and the exam days: 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027, each with a forenoon (9:30 to 12:30) and an afternoon (2:30 to 5:30) session. For reference, GATE 2026 first scheduled its admit card for 2 January 2026 and then moved it to 13 January 2026, ahead of exams on 7 February 2026. All dates are liable to change.

Your admit card is the document that links you to a paper, a session and a centre. If you have not registered yet, start with GATE 2027 registration. The paper and the cities you chose there decide what appears on your admit card.

Where and how you get it

IIT Madras runs the GATE 2027 portal, and the official site, gate2027.iitm.ac.in, will carry the announcement and the link. GOAPS is the portal you registered on, so expect to log in with the details you created there. Do not use third-party sites that claim to "generate" or "fetch" admit cards, and ignore messages asking for a fee to release one. Because the date is not yet known, the right habit is to watch the important-dates page after the city allotment on 4 January 2027, instead of acting on a rumoured date.

What to check on the admit card

  • Your name, photograph and signature. They should match your registration and your ID.
  • Paper code or codes. If you applied for two papers, each paper appears with its own details, and the second paper may be at a different centre in the same city.
  • Session and date. A candidate in a multi-session paper sits only the one session assigned. You cannot choose a session or swap it, and the list of multi-session papers for 2027 has not been announced yet. In GATE 2026, CS and CE had two sessions each, called CS1/CS2 and CE1/CE2.
  • Centre name and address. The city allotment of 4 January 2027 tells you the city. If it is new to you, work out the route and travel time before exam day.
  • Reporting instructions. Follow the time on the admit card, and aim to reach the centre well before it.
  • Identity instructions. The same photo ID that was verified in DigiLocker must be shown at the exam. Aadhaar is preferred, and passport, PAN, voter ID and driving licence are also accepted. If your DigiLocker account was not verified, your application was scrutinised and you must show the original ID.

If anything is wrong, write to the GATE office through the helpdesk channel given on the official site. Do not wait until the exam morning.

Exam-day rules that cost marks or entry

RuleWhat it means
CalculatorOnly the on-screen virtual scientific calculator is allowed. Physical calculators, phones and watches lead to disqualification
Rough workYou get one scribble pad at a time
Late arrivalYou can log in up to 15 minutes after the start, but you get no extra time
Duration3 hours. Candidates with disabilities eligible under the Office Memorandum of 1 August 2025 get 1 hour of compensatory time
LanguageThe question paper is in English only
VenueAll centres are in India; GATE 2027 has none abroad

Late login should be a safety net and not a plan. Fifteen minutes of lost time is about 8% of the paper, and the rest of the rules around identity and devices are strict.

Know the paper before you walk in

Every paper has 65 questions for 100 marks, of which 10 questions and 15 marks are General Aptitude. The question types are MCQ (one correct option), MSQ (one or more correct options) and NAT (a number entered on a virtual keypad). Negative marking applies only to MCQs, at 1/3 mark on a 1-mark question and 2/3 mark on a 2-mark question. MSQ has no partial credit and NAT has no negative marking. The GATE exam pattern explains each type with marks.

The virtual calculator is the part most students underestimate. Practise on the on-screen calculator weeks before, so that you do not lose speed in the first hour. GATE previous year papers and mock tests tells you where the official papers are, and GATE sites have hosted official mock-test links in the past, which show the actual interface.

The last two weeks

Once the admit card shows your session, move your full-length mocks to the same slot: a 9:30 start needs a different body clock from a 2:30 start. Revise formula sheets and your error log instead of starting new topics, and confirm your ID, your route and your travel time. Do a final check that nothing on the list of prohibited items is in your bag. After the exam, your responses and the provisional keys are covered on the GATE answer key page.

Practising for the day with PrepMatic

Exam-hall pressure comes from time and from not knowing where your marks leak. PrepMatic's free GATE assessment (about 15 questions, no timer) shows your weakest subjects and a readiness percentage. Full-length mocks follow the real paper, with negative marking applied in your score, a subject-wise breakdown and the subject that cost you the most marks. You can also build shorter custom mocks for timed drills. Set your exam date in the study plan so the final weeks are planned backward from it. The GATE hub links all the guides.

Frequently asked questions

No. Only the on-screen virtual scientific calculator is allowed. Physical calculators, phones and watches lead to disqualification.

What happens if I reach the centre late?

You can log in up to 15 minutes after the start, with no extra time. After that you should not expect entry, so plan to arrive well before the reporting time.
