NTA declares the NEET-UG result on its official website, and each candidate logs in to see and download a scorecard with the NEET score out of 720, an All India Rank (AIR), a category rank and a percentile. The valid NEET 2026 result, called Re-NEET UG 2026, was declared on 16 July 2026, 25 days after the re-examination of 21 June 2026. The result tells you whether you qualified, and the qualifying score is only the entry ticket to counselling. For NEET 2027, no date has been announced because NTA has not published the information bulletin.

NEET 2026: what happened to the result

The first NEET 2026 exam on 3 May 2026 was cancelled after a paper leak, so the result that counts is for the re-exam on 21 June. The figures below come from NTA's result press note as reported by Careers360, Free Press Journal and Allen, since we did not open the note itself.

YearRegisteredAppearedQualified
2024 (revised result)24,06,07923,33,29713,15,853
2025 (result 14 June 2025)22,76,06922,09,31812,36,531
2026 (Re-NEET, result 16 July 2026)22,79,74319,99,89511,21,176

Two things stand out in our own arithmetic on these figures. About 97% of registered candidates appeared in 2024 and 2025, against about 88% in 2026, because roughly 2.8 lakh registered candidates did not come to the re-exam. And in all three years about 56% of those who appeared qualified. The reported top score in 2026 was 715 out of 720, with AIR 1 shared by two candidates, and 12 students from Tamil Nadu scored above 690, according to DT Next and Careers360.

What your scorecard shows

  • NEET score. Your marks out of 720, which is 4 for each correct answer minus 1 for each wrong one. You can check it beforehand with the NEET answer key method.
  • All India Rank. NTA prepares an All India merit list from NEET scores. State authorities and the Medical Counselling Committee make their own merit lists from it.
  • Category rank. Your rank within your category.
  • Percentile. Shown as a number with decimals. A candidate who stood at AIR 12 in 2026, for example, had a percentile of 99.99915.

Percentile tells you where you stand among those who appeared, while the rank is what counselling uses. The exact scorecard layout is NTA's, so read the downloaded document and keep a copy.

Ties and ranks

NEET has many tied scores, so NTA applies tie-break rules in this order, as reported for the 2025 bulletin and for 2026: higher marks in Biology, then Chemistry, then Physics, then fewer incorrect answers across all subjects, then fewer incorrect answers in Biology, Chemistry and Physics in that order, and finally a random process under an independent expert committee. Age and application number are no longer used. The official 2026 bulletin wording was not seen by us. The NEET marks vs rank page explains why the mapping shifts every year.

Qualifying is not the same as getting a seat

The qualifying cut-off is a percentile rule: the 50th percentile for General and EWS, the 40th for SC, ST and OBC, 45th for General-PwBD and 40th for SC/ST/OBC-PwBD. In 2026 the General (UR/EWS) qualifying cut-off was 213 marks, so scores from 715 down to 213 qualified, against cut-offs of 144 in 2025 and 162 in 2024. The NEET cut-off page gives the full table. Reading NTA's category table needs care: the "number of candidates" column counts candidates within score bands, so do not take it as the total number who qualified in a category.

Qualifying only makes you eligible for counselling. Government seats close at far higher scores, and NTA does not publish those. See NEET score for government medical college.

How to check your result

  1. Open NTA's NEET portal, neet.nta.nic.in, or the notices at nta.ac.in.
  2. Find the result link and log in with the details from your application.
  3. Download the scorecard and save it as a PDF and on your phone.
  4. Keep your application number safe, since counselling asks for it.

NTA warned on 20 July 2026 about fake, altered and AI-generated NEET 2026 documents. Use only the official portal, and do not trust scorecards or rank lists forwarded on social media.

What comes next: counselling

There are two main tracks, and many students use both.

MCC counselling covers the 15% All India Quota in state government medical and dental colleges, all deemed universities, central universities and institutions, AIIMS, JIPMER and ESIC colleges. It runs in rounds (Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and a stray vacancy round). For 2026 the reported schedule had Round 1 registration on 5 to 12 August, but MCC revises dates often, so check its site. Our NEET counselling process page explains each step.

Tamil Nadu counselling is run by the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Kilpauk, Chennai, which publishes notices at tnmedicalselection.net. In the 2026-27 tentative seat matrix, the 36 government medical colleges had 5,050 MBBS seats, of which 753 went to the All India Quota and 4,247 were state quota. A 7.5% preferential reservation for government school students applies under Tamil Nadu Act No. 34 of 2020, and the state runs separate 7.5% and general tracks. The application for 2026-27 opened on 29 June 2026, before the NEET result, and a notice of 23 July said there was no need to upload the NEET scorecard. Preparing for a retake or the next cycle

If your result is below your target, the question is what to change. Analyse the paper subject by subject, find the questions you lost through negative marking and the chapters where marks leaked, and plan again from the NEET hub. For a repeat attempt, the NEET dropper strategy is the guide to start with.

Analysing a result with PrepMatic

PrepMatic's mock results show your score with negative marking, a subject-wise breakdown and the subject that cost you the most marks, and the analytics track your accuracy over time and your speed per question. The free assessment (about 15 questions, no timer) shows your weakest subjects among Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Your study plan is built from your exam date and daily hours. Those figures are practice indicators and not an NTA score or rank.

Frequently asked questions

When will the NEET 2027 result come?

It has not been announced. NTA has not published the 2027 bulletin, and the exam is planned to move to computer-based testing.

What does the NEET percentile mean?

It shows where your score stands among the candidates who appeared. Counselling uses your rank, not the percentile.
