NEET admit card: when it is released, what to check and what to do on exam day
On this page
NTA releases the NEET-UG admit card on its official website a few days before the exam, and you cannot sit the exam without it. In 2026 NTA issued a notice for the admit cards on 26 April 2026, a week before the exam scheduled for 3 May. After that exam was cancelled, NTA issued fresh admit cards by a notice of 17 June 2026 for the re-examination on 21 June 2026. For NEET 2027, no information bulletin has been published, so no admit-card date exists yet. This page explains the process from the 2026 cycle and what to check.
The 2026 admit card timeline
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Admit cards for the original exam (NTA notice) | 26 April 2026 |
| Original exam (later cancelled) | 3 May 2026 |
| Provisional answer keys for the original exam (NTA notice) | 6 May 2026 |
| Re-examination notice and FAQs | 16 May 2026 |
| Admit cards for the re-examination (NTA notice) | 17 June 2026 |
| Re-examination | 21 June 2026 |
| Result | 16 July 2026 |
The pattern worth noting is the gap. The original admit cards came 7 days before the exam, and the re-exam admit cards 4 days before it. Neither is a promise for 2027, and NTA has not said when it will release the 2027 cards. Do not rely on a date from a coaching site: NTA announces the release on its notice board.
Where to download it
Download the admit card only from NTA's official sites: the NEET portal at neet.nta.nic.in and the notices at nta.ac.in. You log in with the credentials from your application. On 20 July 2026, NTA issued an advisory about fake, altered or AI-generated NEET 2026 documents and fake OMR sheets circulating on social media. If a page asks for money to release your admit card, or sends you a file in a chat group, it is not NTA.
NTA's notices and bulletin say whether a separate exam-city intimation is issued before the admit card. If one is announced, check it early, since it tells you which city to plan for. In 2026 the re-exam rules let candidates update their address and choose two city choices, so the centre on the new admit card could differ from the one you had before. Always rely on the centre printed on the card you download for the exam you are sitting.
What to check on the admit card
- Name, photograph and signature. They must match your application and your identity document.
- Medium. The language you chose in the form was locked in 2026, even for the re-exam. If your card shows a different medium from the one you chose, raise it with NTA early.
- Centre name and address. Locate the centre in advance, and work out travel time for the afternoon.
- Date and time. In 2026 the exam started at 2:00 PM; confirm the timing for your own cycle.
- Instructions. The admit card and bulletin list the documents to carry, the dress code and the items that are not allowed. Centres enforce these at the gate, so read that section of the bulletin a week before the exam, not on the morning.
- Application details. Category and other details should match what you submitted.
Timing, mode and the question booklet
The standard timing is 2:00 to 5:00 PM, for 180 questions in 3 hours. The re-exam on 21 June 2026 ran from 2:00 to 5:15 PM. NTA's FAQ explained that the extra 15 minutes were for documentation and verification formalities, not for extra time to answer questions. NEET 2026 was a pen-and-paper exam, with answers marked on an OMR sheet.
If you choose a language other than English, you get a bilingual booklet in your language and English, and the English version is final if the two differ. The Tamil paper is offered at centres in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Write down your test booklet code when you get the booklet. NTA's answer-key notices include the question paper codes (the 2025 codes were numeric), so you need the right one when you check the key. The NEET answer key page shows how to use it.
What changes if NEET 2027 is computer-based
The Union Education Minister announced on 15 May 2026 that NEET-UG will be a computer-based test from 2027, with the 720-mark format unchanged. NTA has not published the 2027 bulletin, so how admit cards, reporting times and in-hall rules will work for a computer-based test is not official yet. In practice, if the exam moves to a screen, it helps to practise some mocks on a screen so the interface does not surprise you. Read the 2027 bulletin when it appears, because the exam pattern and the admit card rules can both change.
Before the exam: the last three days
- Download the admit card and keep a printed copy. Follow the bulletin's list for anything else you must carry.
- Confirm your ID and the rest of the document list on the card.
- Visit the centre route if possible, or at least check it on a map.
- Rehearse your timing: how long you spend per subject, when you fill the OMR and when you review. The NEET time management guide has a plan.
- Sleep properly the night before. A fully revised syllabus helps less than a clear head at 2 PM.
Preparing for the day with PrepMatic
The admit card turns a vague date into a real one, and your plan should count back from it. PrepMatic's study plan uses your exam date, daily hours and study days, and full-length NEET mocks follow the real paper with negative marking, so you can rehearse the 3-hour sitting. The result shows a subject-wise breakdown and the subject that cost you the most marks. The free assessment (about 15 questions, no timer) is a quick way to find the weakest of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The NEET hub links every guide.
