On 9 September 2026 the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretariat summarised the session that had just ended. The House sat for 28 days (178 hours 31 minutes) and passed 13 Bills and 9 government resolutions. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay made 17 major announcements under Rule 110.

What the release says

This was the first session of the 17th Assembly. Its first meeting ran on 11 to 13 May and 18 to 23 June 2026, the second from 5 August to 8 September 2026. Rule 110 saw 18 statements in all. The Chief Minister's 17 covered paddy and sugarcane incentives, digital driving licences, a "Tamil Nadu Olympic City", a "Motor Sports City" and a new Assembly and Secretariat complex in Chennai. During the demands for grants for 2026-27, 51 departments made 1,117 announcements.

Three of the nine resolutions:

  1. "Tamil Thai Vazhthu" to be sung first at the start of every programme of educational institutions, universities, government offices and public sector bodies.
  2. A call on the Union to keep the Lok Sabha at 543 seats, keep the present proportional representation of states, and ensure women get the benefit of the one-third reservation in the coming elections.
  3. A call to recognise Tamil as the principal court language of the Madras High Court, citing Article 348(2) of the Constitution and Section 7 of the Official Languages Act, 1963.

Why it matters for TNPSC

This belongs to Unit IV, Indian Polity: the state legislature, how a resolution differs from a Bill, and the constitutional provisions on language. The Rule 110 announcements also feed Unit V, Development Administration in Tamil Nadu. The Indian Polity guide covers the static topics.
