TNPSC Group 2 and 2A 2026: applications closed on 9 September

The online application window for the Combined Civil Services Examination-II (Group II and IIA Services) closed on 9 September 2026. TNPSC published Notification No. 07/2026 on 11 August 2026, and its press note says the first-stage (preliminary) examination will be held on 1 November 2026.
What the Commission said
TNPSC's press note of 11 August 2026 gave three points. The notification was released as planned in the Commission's annual calendar. Candidates could submit applications online from 11 August to 9 September 2026. Candidates could also pay the examination fee through UPI. The note does not give vacancy numbers, so read them in the notification itself.
What to check if you applied
- Keep your One Time Registration (OTR) account details safe: TNPSC hall tickets are downloaded from the OTR dashboard.
- In the 2025 cycle (Notification No. 11/2025) the preliminary paper had 200 questions for 300 marks in 3 hours, and the preliminary marks were used only to shortlist for the main examination. Check the 2026 notification before assuming the same pattern.
- Group II and Group IIA share one preliminary examination, but they have separate main examinations. The Group 2 vs Group 2A guide explains the difference.
Why it matters
There are about seven weeks between the application deadline and the prelims, so the revision plan matters more than any further paperwork. The Group 2 exam pattern page sets out the papers, and the Group 2 notification page tracks the cycle. Use the time for mock tests on the six General Studies units.
