The latest Group 2 and 2A (CCSE-II) notification we have read in full is Notification No. 11/2025 (Advertisement No. 713), dated 15 July 2025, for 645 vacancies. For 2026, TNPSC's annual planner scheduled the notification for 11 August 2026, and news outlets report that it was issued that day as Notification No. 07/2026 with 821 vacancies and a last date of 9 September 2026. We have not read the 2026 official PDF, so the 2026 figures below are labelled as reported.

If you are planning for the next cycle, the 2025 notification shows the structure TNPSC has been following: a common prelims, then separate mains for Group II and Group IIA, and no interview.

Posts and pay levels in the 2025 notification

Group II (interview-free, ranked on the mains General Studies paper) included Assistant Inspector (Labour), Junior Employment Officer, Probation Officer (Social Defence and Prisons), Sub Registrar Grade II, Special Branch Assistant (Greater Chennai Police and CID), Assistant Section Officer (TNPSC and Secretariat Service) and Forester. The printed pay levels were Level 18 for Assistant Inspector (Labour) and Probation Officer, and Level 16 for Assistant Section Officer and Forester. The remaining posts share merged cells in the printed table, so confirm the level of a specific post in the PDF.

Group IIA posts were:

Pay levelPosts (2025)
Level 12Senior Inspector (Dairy), Audit Inspector (HR&CE)
Level 11Supervisor / Junior Superintendent (Agricultural Marketing)
Level 10Assistant in many departments (Commercial Taxes, Revenue, Police, School Education and others), Senior Revenue Inspector, Executive Officer Grade III (HR&CE)
Level 9Assistant (TNPSC, Legislative Assembly Secretariat), Lower Division (Counter) Clerk

Executive Officer Grade III now comes through Group IIA; see Executive Officer exams. The Group 2 vs Group 2A page helps you choose between the two lists. For what these levels pay, see TNPSC salary by group.

Eligibility in the 2025 notification

Age was counted as on 1 July 2025, and the qualification for both groups was a degree from a UGC-recognised university (some posts add specific degrees or conditions).

Fees

  • One Time Registration (OTR): ₹150, valid for five years. Aadhaar linking is mandatory.
  • Preliminary exam: ₹100.
  • Main exam: ₹150, or ₹300 if you are shortlisted for both the Group II and Group IIA mains.

Fee concessions apply to eligible categories. The conditions are in the fee annexure of the notification.

How the selection works

Group 2 and 2A share a single preliminary exam: 200 questions, 300 marks, 3 hours, with a minimum qualifying score of 90 for all communities. Prelims marks decide only who moves on; they do not count towards the final rank. Candidates are shortlisted for the mains at 1:10 per reservation group. The Group II mains has a qualifying Tamil Eligibility Test (40 of 100 marks) and a General Studies paper of 300 marks that decides rank. The Group IIA mains has the same Tamil paper and a computer-based objective paper of 300 marks. The 2025 scheme has no interview. The unit-by-unit detail is on the Group 2 exam pattern page.

How to apply in a Group 2 cycle

  1. Create or renew your OTR at www.tnpscexams.in. Without Aadhaar linking you cannot apply.
  2. Wait for the notification, then read the post list, age table and the exam fee in the PDF before you log in.
  3. Log in with your OTR user ID, select the Group II and IIA notification, fill in the details, upload the photo and signature in the specified format and pay the fee.
  4. Submit before the last date, and use the three-day correction window afterwards for any errors.

The OTR and how to apply page has the photo and signature specifications.

When is the next Group 2 notification?

TNPSC does not promise dates. Its annual planner for 2026, published on 3 December 2025, is tentative and says examinations may be added or removed. The 2025 notification came in July and the 2026 one was reported in August, so the last two have come mid-year, but nothing is announced for the next cycle. The annual planner page explains how to use the planner without over-trusting it.

How PrepMatic helps

If you are preparing for a Group 2 or 2A cycle, PrepMatic's free assessment shows your weakest subjects across General Studies, language and aptitude. The study plan is built from your exam date and daily hours. Practice is objective, so it suits the prelims (200 questions for 300 marks) and the computer-based Group IIA mains paper. It does not cover descriptive answer writing, so Group II mains writing practice must come elsewhere. See Group 2 on PrepMatic for details.
