The TNPSC Group 4 2026 result is not out, and TNPSC has not announced a date, because the exam is on 10 January 2027. Group 4 has no interview, so the result is decided entirely by your OMR marks out of 300. After the marks are published, shortlisted candidates go through certificate verification and counselling before posts are allotted.

This page explains each step of that route using the Group 4 2026 notification (No. 11/2026), and how to check each release when it comes.

What the 2024 cycle shows about timing

The most recent earlier Group 4 cycle we could check is Notification 01/2024. Its exam was held on 9 June 2024, and TNPSC published candidates' marks on 28 October 2024, about 20 weeks later. TNPSC then released a counselling list for that notification as a PDF on its website; the date 20250108 appears in the file name, which suggests early January 2025. Counselling lists in that cycle include the Executive Officer Grade IV and Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies posts, the same posts that are in the 2026 notification.

This is one cycle, not a schedule. TNPSC makes no promise that 2026 will follow the same gaps, so use it only for planning your year, not for expecting a date.

How the result is decided

  1. Qualifying marks. You must score at least 90 out of 300 overall, the minimum for all communities. You must also score at least 60 out of 150 (40%) in Part A, the Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test. If you miss the Part A gate, Parts B and C are not evaluated.
  2. Ranking. Candidates who qualify are ranked on their total written marks. Part A marks count towards the total. There is no interview and no other stage that adds marks.
  3. Deductions are part of your score. Wrong answers do not lose marks, but each completely blank question costs 0.5 mark, and 0.5 mark is deducted for a missing left-thumb impression. Use the answer key calculation to estimate your own total.
  4. Reservation applies. The notification reserves 30% of posts for women and 4% for persons with disabilities, and sets community percentages of SC 15%, SC(A) 3%, ST 1%, BC (other than Muslims) 26.5%, BC Muslims 3.5% and MBC/DC 20%. Destitute widows get 10% of the women's 30% for posts up to Level 10.

The notification fixes only the minimum qualifying marks, not a cut-off. The effective cut-off depends on vacancies and marks, as the Group 4 cut-off page explains.

After the marks: the shortlisting ratios

The notification shows how many candidates are called per vacancy at each stage. These ratios are from paragraphs 5.3 and 5.6:

StagePostsGeneral candidatesReserved candidates
Onscreen certificate verificationVAO, Junior Assistant, Typist, Steno-Typist1:31:2
CounsellingVAO, Junior Assistant, Steno-Typist1:31:1.5
CounsellingTypist1:31:2

A ratio of 1:3 means that three candidates are called per vacancy, in rank order. The ratios are why a rank that looks too low for a post can still reach counselling, and why a high marks total does not by itself secure a post. The counselling page covers what happens at that stage, and TNPSC vacancy explains why the number of vacancies you are measured against can change.

Forest Guard and Forest Watcher candidates add a physical standards test and an endurance test, in Chennai only. Men walk 25 km and women and third-gender candidates 16 km, within 4 hours.

How to check the result when it is out

  1. Keep your register number and date of birth ready. TNPSC identifies candidates by register number, and its lists, such as the 2024 counselling list, carry register numbers only.
  2. Open www.tnpsc.gov.in and look for the results or press-release section. TNPSC's own announcement tells you where the marks list sits.
  3. Search the PDF for your register number (Ctrl+F on a computer, "Find in page" on a phone).
  4. Download and save the document. Note whether you are shortlisted for certificate verification and what the date instructions say.
  5. Read the instructions on the same notice. The documents to bring and the last date to respond are set there.

Treat the TNPSC website as the source of truth. Third-party sites only copy from it.

What can go wrong after a good score

  • A claim in your application you cannot support. A false fee-concession claim means rejection and a one-year debarment. Keep your community certificate, disability certificate, ex-servicemen documents and other proofs ready.
  • Missing post-specific qualifications. Typist and Steno-Typist posts need the government technical examination in typewriting, and some corporation posts need a degree.
  • Tamil knowledge. Candidates need adequate knowledge of Tamil. Those who do not have it through study must pass TNPSC's Second Class Language Test within two years of appointment, or be discharged.
  • Educational order. Degrees must follow the 10th, then HSC or Diploma, then UG sequence.

Cut-off marks and the data TNPSC releases

TNPSC's open data policy says its disclosures are placed on its website after a recruitment is complete. We could not verify an official Group 4 cut-off table for recent cycles, so this site does not quote cut-off marks. Anyone quoting an exact "safe score" before the result is guessing.

While you wait

Do not stop preparing. Group 2, Group 1 and technical-service notifications come through the year, and a good Group 4 marks total gives you a benchmark. The annual planner explains TNPSC's yearly rhythm, and the TNPSC exam guide links to every group.

How PrepMatic helps

PrepMatic's free assessment gives a projected score against the paper's maximum marks, a readiness percentage and your weakest subjects, so you can see where you stand before and after the exam. If you are preparing for the 10 January 2027 paper, full-length mocks follow the real 200-question, 180-minute format and the mock result shows which subject cost you the most marks. Mocks can be focused on your weak subjects, and you can take them with Tamil as the exam language.

Frequently asked questions

When will the TNPSC Group 4 2026 result be declared?

TNPSC has not announced a date. The exam is on 10 January 2027. In the 2024 cycle the exam was on 9 June 2024 and marks were published on 28 October 2024, but that is not a promise for 2026.

Is there an interview in Group 4?

No. Ranking is based on written marks only. After the marks list, candidates go through certificate verification and counselling.

How do I check my Group 4 result?

Use your register number on the TNPSC website, www.tnpsc.gov.in, when the result is announced. Rely on TNPSC's notice for the exact page.

What is the minimum qualifying mark in Group 4?

The minimum is 90 out of 300 for all communities. You also need at least 60 of 150 in Part A, or Parts B and C are not evaluated.

How many candidates are called for counselling?

For VAO, Junior Assistant and Steno-Typist it is 1:3 for general candidates and 1:1.5 for reserved candidates per the notification. Typist posts use 1:3 and 1:2.

Will the Group 4 cut-off be released?

TNPSC says it publishes disclosures after a selection is complete. We could not verify an official cut-off table for earlier cycles, so check TNPSC's own site rather than coaching-site numbers.
