The live TNPSC recruitment with the most vacancies is Group 4 (CCSE-IV), Notification No. 11/2026, with 6,574 tentative vacancies across 46 post codes. About 40% of them, 2,610, are Junior Assistant (Non-Security) posts, and 291 are Village Administrative Officer posts. TNPSC announces every vacancy count in the notification for each exam, and the count can change before counselling.

This page collects the vacancy figures we could verify, shows how the Group 4 2026 total breaks down, and explains what makes the numbers move.

Where TNPSC announces vacancies

  • The notification PDF. Each exam has a numbered notification with a table of posts, post codes, vacancies, reservation and pay. This is the only source that counts. Find it on the notifications page of www.tnpsc.gov.in.
  • Press releases and addenda. TNPSC changes figures through addenda and corrigenda. For example, Addendum No. 11B/2025, dated 22 December 2025, revised some vacancies of the 2025 Group 2/2A notification.
  • Not the annual planner. The planner lists the exam, the planned notification date, the exam date and exam days, not vacancies, and it is tentative.

Be cautious with any website that lists vacancies without linking to the notification.

Three things stand out. First, ministerial posts dominate: the two Junior Assistant (Non-Security and Security) posts together are 2,638 vacancies, about 40% of the total. Second, VAO, the post most aspirants think of first, is about one vacancy in every 23. Third, Executive Officer Grade IV, which used to be a separate Group 8 exam, and Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies now sit in this list. The notification gives a Level for each post, and the salary page explains what the levels mean. For the VAO role, see TNPSC VAO.

How vacancies are divided

The notification applies Tamil Nadu's reservation rules to the vacancies:

CategoryReservation in the Group 4 2026 notification
SC15%
SC(A)3%
ST1%
BC (other than Muslims)26.5%
BC Muslims3.5%
MBC/DC20%
Women30%
Persons with disabilities4%
Destitute widows10% of the women's 30%, for posts up to Level 10

The community percentages listed above add up to 69%, which leaves 31% in the general turn by subtraction. The women's and disability reservations apply across communities. HR&CE posts are open to Hindu candidates only, and Typist and Steno-Typist posts at the Waqf Board are for Muslim candidates only.

Why vacancy numbers change

  • The notification calls the figure tentative. For Group 4 2026 it says the vacancies are liable for modification before counselling, so the number can rise or fall.
  • Addenda. The 2025 Group 2/2A addendum is an example of a revision after the notification.
  • Backlog. Some posts, such as Typist and Steno-Typist, include backlog vacancies in their counts.

None of this is a reason to wait. The practical use of a vacancy figure is to see how competitive a post is: a post with 2,610 vacancies draws a larger shortlist than one with 8. The shortlisting ratios for certificate verification and counselling are on the Group 4 result page. A bigger vacancy count tends to push the cut-off down, but there is no formula to turn one into the other, and the Group 4 cut-off page explains what is known.

What to do with the numbers

  1. Pick the posts you actually want and check their age, qualification and community rules in the notification.
  2. Note the pay level and the department, which affect transfers and career.
  3. Remember that posts are allotted through counselling after the rank list, so your rank matters more than any single vacancy count. See TNPSC counselling.
  4. Check the notification again before counselling for any change in the count.

How PrepMatic helps

Vacancy tables tell you what is open, not how ready you are. PrepMatic's free assessment shows a projected score against the paper's maximum marks, a readiness percentage and your weakest subjects, so you can decide how much time you need before the exam. For Group 4, the study plan is built from your exam date (10 January 2027) and daily study hours, and full-length mocks follow the real 200-question, 180-minute format.
