TNPSC issued the Group 4 (CCSE-IV) notification, No. 11/2026, on 6 October 2026. It covers 6,574 vacancies (tentative) across 46 post codes, including Village Administrative Officer, Junior Assistant, Typist and Steno-Typist. You apply online at www.tnpscexams.in until 11.59 PM on 5 November 2026, and the single written exam is on Sunday, 10 January 2027, from 9.30 AM to 12.30 PM.

Everything below comes from the official notification. Where TNPSC has not yet announced something, such as the hall ticket or result, this page says so instead of guessing. For the other groups and the full roadmap, start from the TNPSC exam guide.

TNPSC's annual planner, published in December 2025, had pencilled in 20 December 2026 for this exam. The notification moved it to 10 January 2027, so ignore older articles that quote the planner date. The planner is tentative by TNPSC's own wording, and only the notification fixes dates.

From 9 October 2026, the exam is about 13 weeks away. The gap between the last date to apply and the exam is 66 days. Use it for revision, not for waiting on the next announcement. The Group 4 study plan shows how to split those weeks.

Vacancies by post

TNPSC lists 6,574 vacancies across 46 post codes. It calls the figure tentative and says it is liable to change before counselling. These are the larger and better-known posts:

PostPost codeVacanciesPay
Junior Assistant (Non-Security), TN Ministerial Service26002,610Level 8
Typist (Ministerial, Legislative Assembly Secretariat and Secretariat services)2200856 including backlogLevel 8

Forest Watcher331940Level 3
Junior Assistant (Security)240028Level 8
Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies10958Level 10
Forest Guard with Driving Licence33181Level 5

These 11 posts add up to 4,570 vacancies. By subtraction, the other 35 post codes carry the remaining 2,004. "Level" refers to the Tamil Nadu pay matrix. The notification prints levels, not rupee ranges, for government posts, so see TNPSC salary by group rather than trusting figures from random sites. The TNPSC vacancy page explains how counts shift over a cycle.

Eligibility in brief

Age is reckoned as on 1 July 2026. The minimum is 18 for most posts. Maximum age for most SSLC-level posts (Junior Assistant, Typist, Steno-Typist, Bill Collector):

CategoryUpper age limit
Others30
BC (OBCM), BCM, MBC/DC32
SC, SC(A), ST35
PwBD (persons with disabilities)40 (Others), 42 (BC/MBC), 45 (SC/ST)
Ex-servicemen48 (Others), 53 (reserved)

TNPSC's wording is that you "should not have completed" the limit age on the cut-off date. A reserved-category candidate (BC, BCM, MBC/DC, SC, SC(A), ST) who holds a general educational qualification higher than the minimum, such as HSC or a degree for an SSLC-level post, has no maximum age limit, which in TNPSC's terms means below 60. That relaxation does not apply to VAO, Forest Guard or Forest Watcher.

Posts with different rules:

  • VAO: minimum 21. Others up to 30. Reserved categories up to 40 (disability 50, ex-servicemen 53).
  • Forest Guard and Forest Watcher: minimum 21, plus a physical standards test and an endurance test held in Chennai.
  • Executive Officer Grade IV: 25 to 35 for Others; reserved up to 37 (BC/MBC) or 40 (SC/ST). Hindu candidates only.

The educational qualification is a pass in SSLC (Class 10 of the Board of Open School is accepted). Typist and Steno-Typist posts also need the government technical examination in typewriting, and some corporation posts ask for a degree. Candidates in the "Others" category with five or more years of central or state government service cannot apply. Every candidate needs adequate knowledge of Tamil, shown through school or degree study with Tamil as a language, a Tamil-medium high school, or TNPSC's Second Class Language Test. The full tables are on the TNPSC age limit and eligibility page.

What changed in the 2026 notification

  • Part A is a Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test. It is set in Tamil only, with 100 questions for 150 marks. You need at least 40% (60 of 150) or Parts B and C are not evaluated. Part A marks still count towards your rank. The Tamil eligibility test page explains it.
  • Blank answers cost marks. Wrong answers carry no deduction, but each question left completely blank loses 0.5 mark. The OMR sheet has an option [E] for "answer not known". See the marking scheme.
  • Executive Officer Grade IV and Junior Inspector of Co-operative Societies are recruited through this exam. Older articles describing a separate Group 8 exam are out of date.
  • Aadhaar linking is mandatory for One Time Registration.

Fee and how to apply

The exam fee is ₹100. One Time Registration (OTR) is separate: ₹150, valid for five years, and it is not an application. SC, SC(A), ST, persons with disabilities and destitute widows are exempt from the exam fee. BC (OBCM), BCM and MBC/DC candidates get three free chances, and ex-servicemen two. Every application that claims a concession uses up one free chance. A false claim means rejection and a one-year debarment.

  1. Complete OTR at www.tnpscexams.in if you do not have a valid one. Link your Aadhaar.
  2. Prepare a colour studio photograph taken on or after 6 October 2026, with your name and date of photography printed at the bottom. Selfies and phone photos are not accepted. It must be a JPG of 20 to 50 KB. Keep a signature JPG of 10 to 20 KB signed in blue or black ink.
  3. Log in with your OTR user ID, open the Group 4 notification 11/2026 and fill in the application. Give two exam-centre preferences (one if you have a disability).
  4. Pay ₹100 unless you qualify for a concession.
  5. Submit before 11.59 PM on 5 November 2026, then check the form again in the correction window.

Applications are separate for each exam, even with a valid OTR. The step-by-step guide is on OTR and how to apply.

The paper is SSLC standard, 200 questions for 300 marks in 3 hours, answered on an OMR sheet. The minimum qualifying score is 90 out of 300 for every community. There is no interview: your rank comes only from written marks. After that, shortlisted candidates go through certificate verification and counselling, covered on the Group 4 result and counselling pages. The complete scheme is on the Group 4 exam pattern page and the unit list on the Group 4 syllabus page. For the VAO post specifically, see TNPSC VAO.
