If you want a TNPSC Group 2 app, here is what PrepMatic, Tamil Nadu's first AI app for TNPSC, covers: the Group 2 and 2A prelims fully, and Group 2A's Main Paper II. It does not cover Group II's Main Paper II or the Tamil Eligibility Test, because both are descriptive and PrepMatic is objective-only. The prelims is a 200-question, 300-mark, 3-hour paper, and the Group 2A mains paper that decides your rank is also objective, so the app is useful for most of the road. This page shows where it fits stage by stage, using the 2025 scheme (Notification No. 11/2025).

Where an app fits in the Group 2 and 2A scheme

Group 2 and Group 2A share one application and one prelims, then split at the mains. Neither has an interview in the 2025 scheme. The Group 2 exam pattern page has the full scheme; this table is the part that decides what an app can do for you.

StageFormatCounts for rank?PrepMatic fit
Prelims (both groups)Objective, OMR, 200 questions, 300 marks, 3 hoursNo, it is a screening testFull-length mocks follow this paper
Mains Paper I: Tamil Eligibility Test (both)Descriptive, SSLC standard, 100 marks, pass mark 40No, qualifying onlyNot covered
Group II Main Paper IIDescriptive General Studies, degree standard, 300 marksYes, it decides the rankNot covered
Group IIA Main Paper IIComputer-based objective test, 200 questions, 300 marks, 3 hoursYes, it decides the rankObjective practice fits; no dedicated Group IIA mock

Two things follow. If you are aiming at Group IIA, the paper that ranks you is the kind of paper an app can rehearse. If you are aiming at Group II, an app helps with the prelims and then runs out, because the rank-deciding paper needs handwriting practice and feedback that PrepMatic does not give.

The prelims: what the mock rehearses

The prelims paper has three parts. The minimum qualifying mark is 90 out of 300 for all communities, but that is only a floor: mains candidates are shortlisted at 1:10 per reservation group, so what you really need depends on the vacancies and the paper.

PartQuestionsStandardWhat it tests
A: Language (General Tamil or General English)100SSLCGrammar, vocabulary, writing skills, technical terms, comprehension, translation, literary works
B: General Studies75DegreeSix units, led by economy with development administration in Tamil Nadu (20) and Tamil Nadu history and culture (20), then polity (15)
C: Aptitude and Mental Ability25SSLCAptitude (15) and reasoning (10)

PrepMatic's full-length Group 2 and 2A mock follows the same shape: 200 questions, 300 marks, 180 minutes. If you choose Tamil as your exam language, the questions and mock tests are in Tamil. Because the mock is on screen, practise the OMR sheet separately on paper.

At 180 minutes for 200 questions you have 54 seconds a question. A starting split to rehearse is about 55 minutes for the language part, 80 for General Studies, 30 for aptitude and 15 to check. Move the minutes after your first two mocks to match your own speed. The mock test strategy guide explains how to review a paper.

Group IIA Main Paper II: objective practice that fits

This is the paper that ranks Group IIA candidates. It is a computer-based test of 200 questions for 300 marks in 3 hours, with a minimum of 90, split into 150 General Studies questions at degree standard and 50 General Intelligence and Reasoning questions at SSLC standard.

Part A unit (150 questions)Questions
I: Modern history of Tamil Nadu, Tamil society, culture and heritage30
II: Administration of states with reference to Tamil Nadu45
III: Science and technology in development20
IV: Tamil Nadu economy and social issues in Tamil Nadu30
V: Geography of Tamil Nadu, environment, biodiversity and disaster management25

Part B has 27 listed reasoning topics, from analogy and coding-decoding to puzzles, dice and calendars. Of the 150 General Studies questions, 130 sit in units that name Tamil Nadu, so your Tamil Nadu knowledge carries this paper. TNPSC says the unit-wise split is indicative, so treat the numbers as a guide, not a promise.

PrepMatic does not have a dedicated Group IIA mains mock. What you can do is build custom mocks on the subjects you need, choosing the subjects, the number of questions, the duration and the difficulty, and run them in two blocks, one for General Studies and one for reasoning. Add topic tests (about 15 questions in 30 minutes) after each unit, and use mocks from notes you upload for the units where your own notes are your best source. Read Group 2 mains preparation for the interface and time-management advice, since it is a computer test.

Group II Main Paper II: what PrepMatic does not do

Group II's Paper II is descriptive: 300 marks, made up of nine 10-mark answers of about 100 words, three 10-mark answers chosen from five on Tamil society, culture and heritage, and twelve 15-mark answers of about 200 words. PrepMatic has no answer-writing practice or evaluation, so it cannot help with how you write, structure or time these answers. The same is true of the Tamil Eligibility Test in Paper I, which you must pass with 40 out of 100 before Paper II is evaluated.

If Group II is your target, use PrepMatic for the prelims and for checking recall of facts, and use handwritten practice, a study partner or a teacher for the mains. The Group 2 vs Group 2A guide helps you decide which route suits your strengths, and the Tamil Eligibility Test guide covers Paper I.

Planning across prelims and mains

PrepMatic builds your study plan from one exam date, plus your daily hours and study days. A Group 2 aspirant has two dates, and the mains date is announced only with the prelims results (in the 2025 cycle, the prelims were on 28 September 2025). So:

  1. Set the plan to the prelims date first, from the official notification, not the annual planner.
  2. Use the Today view for the daily work and the Roadmap once a week.
  3. When the prelims result is out and the mains date is announced, update your exam date and re-plan from today. The plan does not rebuild itself, so this is something you do.
  4. During the gap, move from broad coverage to the Tamil Nadu-heavy mains units and to whatever the mains paper rewards: writing for Group II, speed and reasoning for Group IIA.

The Group 2 study plan has the integrated prelims-plus-mains schedule, and how the AI planner works explains the pace settings (light is 1 to 2 hours a day, moderate 3 to 4, intense 5 or more).

Free plan and where to start

Start with the free assessment: about 15 untimed questions that show your weakest and strongest subjects and a projected score. It works at subject level, so it cannot tell you which unit is the problem, but it tells you whether to begin with language, General Studies or aptitude. The Basic plan is free forever with no credit card and includes one exam, the AI study plan, 2 mock tests a month, 5 topic tests and 2 uploaded documents. Practice questions are AI-generated, not TNPSC's own papers, and mock reviews do not explain each answer, so keep a short error log of your own.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an app for TNPSC Group 2 preparation?

Yes. PrepMatic supports the Group 2 and 2A prelims with full-length 200-question mocks and the Group 2A mains paper with objective custom mocks and topic tests. It does not cover descriptive papers, and it runs in your browser at prepmatic.in.

Does PrepMatic cover Group 2 mains?

Partly. It fits Group IIA Main Paper II, which is a computer-based objective test. It does not cover Group II Main Paper II or the Tamil Eligibility Test, which are descriptive and need written practice.

Is there an interview in Group 2?

Not in the 2025 scheme. Ranking is by marks in Main Paper II alone, and Paper I is a qualifying test. Older articles that call Group 2 an interview exam describe the earlier scheme.

Can I practise the Group 2 prelims in Tamil?

Yes. Choose Tamil as your exam language and your questions and mock tests will be in Tamil. The dashboard and analytics screens are available in Tamil too. See the TNPSC app in Tamil guide for what is and is not translated.

Is prelims practice enough for Group 2?

No. Prelims marks only shortlist you for the mains and are not counted in the final rank, so the mains papers decide your result. That means handwriting practice for Group II, and speed and accuracy on a computer for Group IIA.
