A good TNPSC Group 4 app should do four things: let you practise Part A in Tamil, give you a full 200-question paper to rehearse, test each topic as you finish it, and fit all of it into the weeks you have left. PrepMatic, Tamil Nadu's first AI app for TNPSC, does these for Group 4 and VAO. The exam in Notification No. 11/2026 is on 10 January 2027, which is 13 weeks and 2 days from 9 October 2026, so this page gives a week-by-week routine for exactly that window. For the unit-by-unit reading schedule, use the Group 4 study plan alongside it.

What the 2026 Group 4 paper asks of you

Group 4 is one paper: 200 questions, 300 marks, 3 hours (9.30 AM to 12.30 PM), marked on an OMR sheet, with no interview. Every question carries 1.5 marks. The exam pattern guide has the full detail; these are the parts that shape how you use an app.

PartQuestionsMarksLanguage
A: Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test100150Tamil only
B: General Studies75150 together with CTamil and English
C: Aptitude and Mental Ability25Tamil and English

Three rules matter more than any others:

  • The Part A gate. You need at least 40% (60 out of 150) in Part A, or Parts B and C are not evaluated. Part A marks still count towards your rank.
  • The overall minimum. 90 out of 300 for all communities.
  • The blank penalty. There is no deduction for a wrong answer, but each question left completely blank costs 0.5 mark. The marking scheme guide explains the E option.

Set up in five steps

  1. Choose TNPSC, then Group 4 (the VAO post is filled through the same exam).
  2. Set Preferred exam language to Tamil. Part A is set in Tamil only and Parts B and C are bilingual, so this setting decides the language of your practice.
  3. Take the free assessment: about 15 untimed questions. Read the whole answer review, and note which of General Tamil, General Studies and Aptitude comes out weakest.
  4. Enter the exam date from the notification, 10 January 2027. TNPSC's own annual planner had pencilled in 20 December 2026, so do not copy a date from an older calendar.
  5. Choose your pace (light is 1 to 2 hours a day, moderate 3 to 4, intense 5 or more) and your study days. How the planner works covers the arithmetic.

The 13-week routine

Weeks start on Monday 12 October 2026. If you are starting later, keep weeks 9 to 13 and the mock Sundays as they are, and compress the learning weeks instead. Full mocks come every second Sunday, which is the pace of the free plan's two mocks a month.

The dates for applying and corrections are from the notification: the last date is 5 November 2026, 11.59 PM, with a correction window from 9 to 11 November. See OTR and how to apply if you have not registered.

For the Tamil-only mocks, build a custom mock on General Tamil with the question count and duration you choose. The real Part A is 100 questions, and about an hour is a fair target.

Read every mock against the two gates

A total score hides the number that can end your paper. Track Part A on its own. Here is a made-up example. Your second mock shows 78 out of 150 in Tamil. That clears the 60 gate by 18 marks, which is 12 questions at 1.5 marks each. If your third mock shows 58, you have fallen below the line, and in the real exam your General Studies and aptitude answers would not be looked at. The same result in the total column would have looked fine.

After each mock, use the subject-wise breakdown and the subject that cost you the most marks to choose next week's focus. Then write down, in your error log, why you lost each mark: did not know, forgot, misread or slipped on a calculation. The mock review does not explain individual answers, so the reasons have to come from your textbooks and your notes.

Practise the OMR separately on paper. PrepMatic's mocks are taken on screen, so the sheet itself, with its E bubble and the 0.5 blank penalty, needs its own rehearsal. Because wrong answers cost nothing, shade a guess on every remaining question before time ends.

What PrepMatic does not do for Group 4

  • It does not teach whole subjects. The AI Study Tutor clears individual doubts in Tamil or English (see the TNPSC AI tutor), but you still learn each subject from Samacheer Kalvi books and your notes. See the books guide.
  • It is not a bank of TNPSC's own papers. Practice questions are AI-generated. For real past papers and answer keys, read how to use previous year questions.
  • It does not cover post-specific requirements. Typist and Steno posts need typewriting qualifications, and the Forest Guard and Forest Watcher posts add physical and endurance tests, all listed in the notification.
  • It is a web app. You open it in your browser at prepmatic.in. There is no app-store download.

Using the free plan well

The Basic plan is free forever, with no credit card: one exam, the AI study plan, 2 mock tests a month, 5 topic tests and 2 uploaded documents. With only five topic tests, spend them on the biggest units, not evenly. In the indicative split, Indian Economy with Development Administration in Tamil Nadu and Tamil Nadu history, culture and heritage are 20 questions each, and polity is 15. Paid plans add more mocks, topic tests and uploads; check the in-app plans for what applies to you.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an app for TNPSC Group 4 preparation?

Yes. PrepMatic covers Group 4 and VAO with a free assessment, a study plan built from your exam date, topic tests and full-length mocks of 200 questions in 180 minutes. It runs in your browser at prepmatic.in.

Can I prepare for Group 4 in 13 weeks?

Whether 13 weeks is enough depends on where you start, and no app can promise a result. The honest first step is the free assessment, which shows your weakest subject. Then use the pace setting to see how many study hours the 13 weeks actually give you.

Does PrepMatic's Group 4 practice cover VAO?

Yes, because VAO is filled through the Group 4 exam and uses the same paper. VAO has its own age rules, which you can read in the VAO guide.

Are the Group 4 mocks in Tamil?

If you choose Tamil as your exam language, questions and mock tests are in Tamil. That matches Part A, which is set in Tamil only, and lets you practise Parts B and C in the language you plan to read them in.

How many full mocks should I take before 10 January?

The routine above uses five, every second Sunday from 8 November. More are better in the last month if your plan allows, but a mock without a review teaches little. Read the mock test strategy for how to analyse each one.
