On 17 September 2026 the Government of Tamil Nadu summarised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's visit to the United Kingdom, which began on 10 September. The release says MoUs and a letter of intent signed in London on 14 September cover investments of ₹15,300 crore and more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The London agreements of 14 September
| Company | What it plans | Figure given |
|---|---|---|
| Samvardhana Motherson International | Design, engineering, manufacturing, integration and logistics facilities | ₹11,000 crore; about 7,000 jobs |
| Ernst & Young | A Global Capability Centre (GCC) under a Build-Operate-Transform-Transfer arrangement, on the GCC corridor on Mount-Poonamallee Road | About ₹1,000 crore; over 2,000 jobs |
| Sigma Technology group (Sweden) | Expansion of GCCs in Tiruchirappalli and Chennai | 600 jobs |
| Wilson Power Solutions (UK) | Transformer manufacturing in Tiruvallur district | ₹300 crore; 400 jobs |

The MoUs were signed with Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state's investment promotion agency. The release links the visit to the state's goal of a 1.5 trillion US dollar economy by 2036 and recalls that the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investors Conference 2026 produced 97 MoUs worth ₹67,452 crore. In Silverstone the Chief Minister reviewed the race circuit in support of the announced Motor Sports City and flagged off the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup race.
Why it matters for TNPSC
Investment promotion and industrial policy belong to Unit V, Indian Economy and Development Administration in Tamil Nadu. Know the vocabulary: an MoU is a statement of intent, not a completed investment, and a GCC is an offshore centre that does engineering, analytics or business work for a parent company. The Indian economy guide covers the static topics.
