What is the educational qualification for TNPSC Group 4?

The minimum educational qualification for TNPSC Group 4 is a pass in SSLC (Class 10) of Tamil Nadu. Board of Open School 10th is accepted. Some posts ask for more, such as a typewriting certificate or a degree, and the notification lists those conditions against the post.
What the notification sets
Notification No. 11/2026 (Advt No. 747), paras 4.2.2 and 4.2.3, fixes SSLC as the minimum general educational qualification. Higher qualifications such as HSC or a degree are accepted for SSLC-level posts, and they can matter for age (see below). Where you hold a degree, para 4.2.4 requires the qualifications to follow the order of 10th, then HSC or diploma, then the undergraduate degree.

Other eligibility conditions
- Tamil knowledge. Required on the date of the notification. See do I need to know Tamil.
- Religion for some posts. HR&CE posts are for Hindu candidates and Waqf Board Typist and Steno posts for Muslim candidates.
- Government service. Others with five or more years of service are not eligible. See government employees.
How higher qualifications help
Reserved-category candidates who hold HSC or a degree for an SSLC-level post have no maximum age limit for most posts, except VAO, Forest Guard and Forest Watcher. See the Group 4 age limit. Students in their final year already meet the base condition; read final year students.
