What is the passing mark in TNPSC Group 4?
On this page
The minimum qualifying mark in TNPSC Group 4 is 90 out of 300, and it is the same for all communities. On top of that, you need at least 60 of the 150 marks (40 percent) in Part A, the Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test. Clearing both makes you eligible for the rank list, but it does not mean you will be selected.
The two thresholds
| Threshold | Marks needed | What happens if you miss it |
|---|---|---|
| Part A (Tamil), 100 questions | 60 of 150 | Parts B and C are not evaluated |
| Whole paper, 200 questions | 90 of 300 | You are not eligible for ranking |
Both come from Notification No. 11/2026 (para 6.1). Because the paper carries 1.5 marks per question, 90 marks is the equivalent of 60 correct answers out of 200, with nothing deducted for wrong answers. (Blank answers lose 0.5 mark each.)
Passing is not the cut-off
Posts are filled in rank order, community by community, against the vacancies. The marks at which the last candidate was selected depend on how many posts there are, how many people sit the exam and how hard the paper was. That number is separate from the 90-mark minimum and is usually higher. TNPSC states that it makes result disclosures available on its website after a recruitment is complete, but we have not published any cut-off figure here because we have not verified one from an official table. Read the Group 4 cut-off guide for how cut-offs are formed and how to set a safe target.
Is there a different mark for Group 2 or Group 1?
Yes. Group 1 prelims set 90 for reserved categories and 120 for Others, and Group 2/2A prelims set 90 for all communities, both out of 300. See the Group 1 prelims minimum answer.
How to use this
Aim well above 90. A realistic plan is to score near the top in Tamil, since it is 150 of the 300 marks and carries the gate, then bank General Studies and aptitude. The Group 4 exam pattern shows the full structure.
