No. In the 2025 scheme (Notification No. 11/2025, Advt No. 713) there is no interview for either Group II or Group IIA. The word "interview" does not appear in the notification, and your rank is decided only by your marks in Main Paper II.

How selection works instead

  1. Preliminary exam. One common paper of 200 questions for 300 marks, 3 hours. It is a screening test. Its marks are not counted in the final rank.
  2. Main exam. Candidates are shortlisted for the mains in a ratio of 1:10 per reservation group. Paper I is a Tamil Eligibility Test of 100 marks, where 40 is needed to pass, and its marks do not count for rank. Paper II is General Studies for 300 marks.
  3. Rank. Group II and Group IIA are ranked on Main Paper II alone. Group II's Paper II is descriptive, while Group IIA's is a computer-based objective test.
  4. Counselling and posting. Candidates are then called for certificate checks and counselling. For Forester, an endurance test is added.

Why older articles say otherwise

Earlier Group 2 notifications used to be described as the "interview" posts, with Group 2A as "non-interview". The 2025 notification dropped the interview, so many guides on the web are out of date. If an article quotes interview marks for Group 2, check its date.

Where interviews still exist

ExamInterview
Group 1Yes, 100 marks, counted in the 850-mark rank
Group 2 and 2A (2025)No
Group 4No

What this means for preparation

With no interview and prelims used only for screening, the mains General Studies paper decides everything. Read the Group 2 exam pattern and the Group 2 mains preparation guide.
