Is there an interview for TNPSC Group 4?
On this page
No. TNPSC Group 4 has no interview. Notification No. 11/2026 describes a single-stage written examination, and your rank is based purely on your written marks. After the exam, you go through certificate verification and counselling, which are checks and not marks.
What happens after the written exam
- Written exam. One paper of 200 questions for 300 marks, on 10 January 2027.
- Rank list. Candidates who clear the minimums (60 of 150 in Part A, 90 of 300 overall) are ranked on marks.
- Onscreen certificate verification. Candidates are called in a ratio, which for VAO, Junior Assistant, Typist and Steno posts is 1:3 for the general category and 1:2 for reserved categories.
- Counselling. The ratio is 1:3 for general and 1:1.5 for reserved categories for VAO, Junior Assistant and Steno posts, and 1:3 and 1:2 for Typist. You choose a post and department by rank.
These steps are explained in more detail in the TNPSC counselling guide.
When there is more than a written test
Forest Guard and Forest Watcher posts add a Physical Standards Test and an Endurance Test. The endurance test is a walk of 25 km for men and 16 km for women and third-gender candidates, to be completed in 4 hours, held in Chennai only. It is a test of fitness, not an interview.

What this means for you
With no interview to offset a weak paper, the marks you get in the exam are your whole case. That includes Tamil, since Part A marks count in your total. A strong score is the only lever, so spend your time on the Group 4 syllabus and full mocks in the weeks before 10 January 2027.
