Yes. The minimum educational qualification for Group 4 is a pass in SSLC (Class 10), so a student who is still in the final year of a degree, a diploma or Class 12 already meets it for most posts and can apply. What matters is your age, your community and whether the post you want asks for something extra.

What the 2026 notification says

Notification No. 11/2026 (Advt No. 747, dated 6 October 2026) fixes the minimum general educational qualification as a pass in SSLC. VAO, Junior Assistant, Bill Collector and most other Group 4 posts ask for nothing more. Applications are open until 11.59 PM on 5 November 2026 and the single written paper is on 10 January 2027.

Posts that ask for more than SSLC

Being in your final year does not help if the post needs a certificate you do not hold yet.

  • Typist needs a government technical examination certificate in typewriting, and Steno-Typist needs typewriting and shorthand. See the typist and steno-typist qualification answer.
  • Some corporation Junior Assistant posts ask for a degree such as B.Com. A degree you have not yet been awarded will not satisfy that.

Your HSC can help with the age limit

Age is counted as on 1 July 2026. For most posts the maximum is 30 for Others, 32 for BC/BCM/MBC/DC and 35 for SC/SC(A)/ST. Reserved-category candidates who hold a general qualification higher than the minimum, such as HSC or a degree, have no maximum age for most posts. VAO, Forest Guard and Forest Watcher are the exceptions. That rule is explained on the Group 4 age limit page.

Before you apply

  • Check your college calendar against 10 January 2027 so a university exam does not clash with the TNPSC paper.
  • Register for One Time Registration first, with your SSLC details and Aadhaar. See the OTR and how to apply guide.
  • If you are aiming for Group 2 or Group 1 instead, those need a degree. Read how the notification treats candidates whose degree result is pending before you plan around it.

The full Group 4 pattern and syllabus are in the TNPSC Group 4 exam pattern guide.
