Management quota in NEET counselling
On this page
Management quota is a category of seats in private medical colleges, separate from the Government Quota, that usually carries higher fees. In Tamil Nadu 2026-27 it is "35% or less" of the seats in self-financing and state private university colleges. These seats are filled through the Selection Committee's own Management Quota counselling, and you still need a qualifying NEET score.
How private college seats are shared
| Seat type | Share in self-financing and state private university colleges |
|---|---|
| Government Quota | 50% or more |
| Management Quota | 35% or less |
| NRI quota | 15% of self-financing seats |
The Government Quota seats are allotted by the state on merit. Management Quota seats are filled from their own rank list. Deemed universities are not in this table, because MCC counsels them. See deemed universities.
What the Tamil Nadu prospectus says
- A separate Management Quota prospectus was issued on 28 June 2026, two days before the Government Quota one.
- The application fee is Rs.1,000 for Management Quota, against Rs.500 for Government Quota. Counselling registration is also Rs.1,000, against Rs.500.
- The security deposit is Rs.1,00,000 for Management Quota. It is Rs.30,000 for Government Quota seats in self-financing colleges, and nil in government colleges.
- Provisional rank lists for the Government Quota, Management Quota and the 7.5% list were published on 12 August 2026.
For comparison, the government-college MBBS fee for 2026-27 is Rs.18,073 a year, of which tuition is Rs.6,000. Private college fees are not in the sources we could confirm, so none are quoted here.
Choosing to apply
Management quota is not a way around NEET. Your NEET score decides your merit, and the state keeps a separate rank list for each quota. Apply to the state quota as well if you are eligible, since government seats cost far less. Before you finalise your choices, ask each college for its total fee for the whole course, not only the first year. The Tamil Nadu counselling guide lists the documents.
