NTA (National Testing Agency) and NEET-UG
On this page
NTA, the National Testing Agency, is the government agency that conducts NEET-UG. It publishes the information bulletin, takes applications, runs the exam, releases answer keys and declares the result. It does not allot seats. Counselling is done afterwards by MCC and the state authorities.
What NTA does for NEET
- Before the exam: issues the information bulletin, opens registration and publishes the city intimation and admit cards.
- On exam day: conducts the paper at centres across India. NEET-UG is offered in 13 languages, and Tamil is available at centres in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
- After the exam: shows your recorded responses, publishes the provisional answer key and the final key, and declares the result with marks, percentile and All India Rank.
NTA decides the rank and publishes the tie-break rules. The syllabus comes from NMC, and the qualifying percentile rule comes from the NMC regulations. See NMC for that split.
What NTA does not do
NTA does not run counselling, fix fees or allot seats. MCC counsels for All India Quota, deemed and central seats, and in Tamil Nadu the Selection Committee in Chennai handles the state quota. Questions about reservation, nativity or seat matrices go to those bodies.
Using NTA notices safely
NTA's 2026 notices show why it pays to check sources. The 3 May 2026 exam was cancelled after a paper leak, and NTA notified a re-examination on 16 May 2026, held on 21 June 2026. On 20 July 2026 it also posted a notice warning about fake, altered or AI-generated NEET 2026 documents and fake OMR sheets on social media.
So:
- Open notices only from nta.ac.in or neet.nta.nic.in.
- Treat answer keys, scorecards and "leaked" papers on social media as unofficial.
- Read dates and fees in the current bulletin, not in a coaching article from an earlier year.
The NEET exam pattern page covers the format NTA conducts, and the NEET result guide explains what the scorecard shows.
