MCC security deposit in NEET counselling
On this page
The MCC security deposit is a refundable amount that candidates pay at registration for MCC counselling. It is separate from the registration fee, which is non-refundable. The deposit is held while you take part in the rounds, and it is returned or forfeited under the rules of the round in which you join or leave.
Amounts reported for 2026
These figures come from a single publisher's report on the 2026 MCC counselling, not from the MCC site, so treat them as indicative and confirm on mcc.nic.in.
| Quota | Category | Registration fee | Security deposit |
|---|---|---|---|
| All India Quota and central universities | UR/EWS | Rs.1,000 | Rs.10,000 |
| All India Quota and central universities | SC, ST, OBC, PwD | Rs.500 | Rs.5,000 |
| Deemed universities | All categories | Rs.5,000 | Rs.2,00,000 |
The deposit is much larger for deemed universities, which is a reason to read the bulletin before you add them to your list.
When a deposit is lost
Forfeiture rules differ round by round, so read the current MCC information bulletin, not an old article. As a comparison, Tamil Nadu's state counselling has its own deposit rules for 2026-27: nil in government colleges, Rs.30,000 for Government Quota seats in self-financing colleges (SC, SCA and ST candidates are exempt if family income is under Rs.2.5 lakh), and Rs.1,00,000 for management quota. Not joining in Round 3 or later forfeits the deposit in Tamil Nadu, and a free exit is allowed in Round 1 and Round 2 before the stipulated date. Those are state rules, so they do not automatically apply to MCC.
What to do
- Pay only on the official MCC portal and keep the receipt.
- Note the date until which a free exit applies, if any, before you accept a seat.
- Check the refund process and timeline in the bulletin.
Seat choices in MCC counselling are the next step. See the counselling process guide for the order of steps.
