District Employment Officer is at Level 22 of the Tamil Nadu pay matrix in the 2025 TNPSC Group 1 notification (No. 04/2025). A separate Group 2 post, the Junior Employment Officer, works in the same Employment and Training Department at Level 18.

What is added to basic pay

Dearness allowance is added on basic pay, and house rent allowance and any city compensatory allowance follow the place of posting. Deductions include professional tax, income tax and the retirement-scheme contribution for the post. Annual increments move pay one cell down Level 22 on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October, set by your date of joining.

What the post involves

The notification does not list duties. The Employment and Training Department runs the state's employment offices. A District Employment Officer typically heads the district's employment office: registering job seekers, giving career guidance, organising job fairs and linking employers with candidates, and coordinating the department's skill-related programmes in the district.

Promotion

Officers of the Employment and Training Department move up to higher posts under the department's service rules and seniority, with each step carrying a higher level. Annual increments raise pay in between.

How to get the post

  • Qualification: a degree, with post-specific conditions in para 4.2 of the notification.
  • Prelims: a screening paper of 200 questions for 300 marks (General Studies 175, Aptitude 25).
  • Mains: a qualifying Tamil Eligibility Test and three General Studies papers of 250 marks each.
  • Interview: 100 marks, so the final rank is on 850 marks.
