What is added to basic pay

Dearness allowance is added on basic pay, and house rent allowance and any city compensatory allowance follow the place of posting. The allowance slab depends on where you are placed. Deductions include professional tax, income tax and the retirement-scheme contribution of the post. Annual increments move pay one cell down Level 22 on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October.

What an Assistant Commissioner does

The notification does not list duties. The Commercial Taxes Department administers the state's indirect taxes. An Assistant Commissioner typically supervises the assessing and enforcement officers of a division or circle, reviews assessments and audits, decides on proceedings within the powers of the post, and oversees recovery of tax dues. The work involves tax law and accounts.

Promotion

The department's officer ladder runs through the Deputy Commissioner and Joint Commissioner grades towards the more senior posts of the department, under service rules and seniority. Each promotion carries a higher level.

How to get the post

  • Qualification: a degree with post-specific conditions in para 4.2 of the notification.
