The post used to be filled through a separate Group 8 exam; it now comes through Group 4.
Pay level and basic pay
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Post and service | Executive Officer (Grade IV), HR&CE Subordinate Service |
| Post code and vacancies | 1655; 46 (tentative) |
| Pay level | Level 8 |
| Pay range | ₹19,500 to ₹62,000 per month |
| Qualification | Pass in SSLC, or the title "Tamil Pulavar" recognised by the UGC for its grant |
The notification prints "Level 8" only. The range is from Schedule-I of G.O. Ms. No. 303 (11 October 2017), summarised on the salary hub. The same level applies to VAO and Junior Assistant in this notification, but the Executive Officer Grade III post, filled through Group 2A, is two levels higher at Level 10.
What is added to basic pay
Dearness allowance is added to basic pay. House rent allowance and any city compensatory allowance depend on where the temple is located, so a posting in a city temple and one in a village temple give different gross pay on the same basic. Deductions include professional tax, income tax and the retirement-scheme contribution your post carries. The annual increment falls on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October, depending on your date of joining.
What an Executive Officer does
The notification does not list duties. In the HR&CE Department, an Executive Officer administers a temple or group of temples under the HR&CE Act: managing its properties and rents, income and expenditure and accounts, supervising temple staff, and seeing that daily worship and festivals are conducted according to the temple's custom. The work is administrative. Grade IV is the lowest of the Executive Officer grades.
Promotion
Promotion goes to higher Executive Officer grades under the department's service rules, on seniority and conditions of service, and each step brings a higher level.
How to get the post
- Religion: only candidates professing the Hindu religion are eligible for HR&CE posts.
- Qualification: SSLC, or the Tamil Pulavar title. Other things being equal, preference goes to employees of religious institutions (not government servants) with at least five years' service.
- Age as on 1 July 2026: 25 to 35 for Others, 25 to 37 for BC and MBC/DC, and 25 to 40 for SC and ST candidates. Reserved candidates with a qualification above SSLC have no upper limit short of 60 years.
- Exam: the Group 4 paper of 200 questions for 300 marks, no interview. See the Executive Officer exams guide and the Group 4 exam pattern.
