Where can I download GATE previous year papers?

Download them from the Downloads page of the official GATE 2027 website (gate2027.iitm.ac.in), run by IIT Madras. It offers a bulk download of question papers from 2007 to 2026 through a linked folder, and year-wise question papers with answer keys for 2021 to 2026, one file per paper code. You do not need a coaching site's copy.

The file naming follows the paper code. For instance, the 2026 Computer Science session 1 paper is CS1 in the question papers folder and CS1_Keys in the keys folder. Sessions differ, so for a multi-session paper download all the files before you decide that a year's paper is "too easy" or "too hard".
How GATE itself advises you to prepare
The only preparation advice in the official FAQs is to use the previous papers and the official syllabus. GATE does not recommend coaching, books or any particular paper source.
Using old papers for 2027
The syllabi of all papers were revised for GATE 2027, the first revision in about five years. This changes how you should use the archive:
- Use papers for format and difficulty. They show how questions are framed, how many are MCQ, MSQ and NAT, and how long you take.
- Check each question against the 2027 syllabus. A topic in an old paper may have been trimmed or reorganised. Compare with the 2027 syllabus for your paper before you spend time on it.
- Treat weightage with caution. There is no official weightage, and counts from past papers are a weaker guide than usual after a revision.
- Practise under exam conditions. The real test is on a computer, with only a virtual calculator (is a calculator allowed in GATE).
A sensible order is to solve papers by subject first, then take whole papers in 3 hours near the end of preparation. The full approach is in GATE previous year papers and mock tests.
Beware of unofficial copies
Questions and keys reproduced elsewhere may contain typing mistakes or an outdated syllabus. When a key matters, compare it with the official file.
