Who is conducting GATE 2027?

GATE 2027 is organised by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) in Chennai. Its official website is gate2027.iitm.ac.in. GATE is run jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru and seven IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.
Who runs GATE, and how the organiser changes
GATE is not held by a single permanent body. Each year, one of the participating institutes acts as the organising institute, and the others share the work.

The 2026 and 2027 entries are confirmed on the organisers' own sites. The 2024 and 2025 entries are from news coverage and from the fact that the COAP 2026 portal was run by IIT Roorkee, the previous organiser.
The seven IITs in the joint system are Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee, with IISc. GATE began in 1983.
Why it matters which institute organises it
The organising institute publishes the information brochure, the syllabus, the dates, the application portal and the results, and its website is the only place to trust for GATE 2027. A site belonging to a previous year's organiser, such as the GATE 2026 site of IIT Guwahati, is correct for 2026 only. Old brochures can show different rules: for GATE 2027, every syllabus was revised and a new paper, Robotics and Automation (RA), was added.
The exam itself is held at centres in India in eight zones. For a candidate in Chennai or elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, IIT Madras's zone covers the centres in the state (GATE exam cities in Tamil Nadu). GATE 2027 has no exam centres outside India.
