A GATE score is valid for three years from the date the result is declared. For GATE 2027, the result is scheduled for 19 March 2027, which puts the end of validity around March 2030, but confirm the exact wording in the brochure. There is one catch: the scorecard itself can be downloaded only for a limited period, so save it early.

The validity rule

The GATE 2027 Information Brochure states that the score is valid for three years from the date of the result. The institute or organisation that uses the score, whether an M.Tech programme, a PhD admission or a recruiter, applies its own conditions on top, so read its notice.

A real example of how validity works in practice is COAP, the Common Offer Acceptance Portal for IIT and IISc M.Tech offers. COAP 2026 accepted GATE 2026, 2025 and 2024 scores from Indian nationals, which fits the three-year window.

The scorecard catch

Validity and scorecard availability are different things. For GATE 2027, the scorecard timeline is:

StageWhat happens
After the resultQualified candidates can download the scorecard free for a set window
After that window, until 31 December 2027₹500 per paper
From 1 January 2028No scorecards issued; no hard copies

Only candidates who qualify get a scorecard and a GATE score. The consequence is simple: your score may be valid in 2029, but you can no longer obtain the document from GATE after 2027. Download the PDF in the free window, keep copies safe, and note your registration number and paper code.

Planning around the three years

The end date above is simple arithmetic from the brochure's rule and the scheduled result date, and dates are liable to change.

  • If you plan to join M.Tech straight after graduation, a score earned in your third year can still be valid when you apply.
  • If your score is close to expiring and you want a stronger one, you can sit again; there is no cap on attempts (how many times you can attempt GATE).
  • Write the scorecard's registration number and paper code in a safe place, because institutes and recruiters ask for them.

How the score itself is computed from your marks is covered in GATE score and normalisation. For third-year candidates, see can third-year students write GATE.
