Officer Scale I (Assistant Manager, often called "RRB PO") is the entry-level officer post in a Regional Rural Bank, recruited by IBPS under the 2026 CRP RRBs-XV notification. This page does not print a rupee scale: RRB pay is revised from time to time, and the figure that applies to you is the one in the pay and service terms of the notification for your cycle and in your appointment terms. What it can set out is the structure that decides your pay: the grade, the employer and the language rule.

A candidate can apply for the Office Assistant post and for one officer post, with a separate application and fee for each. Scale I is the lowest of the three officer scales, so a Scale I officer starts below Scale II and III in grade and pay. For printed scales of other bank officer posts, see IBPS PO, SBI PO and the clerical IBPS Clerk. The salary hub shows how to read a scale.

What decides your pay

Your basic pay comes from the scale of the post you are selected for. Dearness allowance, house rent allowance and other allowances follow the rules of the Regional Rural Bank that employs you, and deductions such as income tax and the retirement-scheme contribution apply. Because the Regional Rural Bank is the employer, ask it for the salary structure when you receive your allotment, and check the pay terms in the detailed notification before you apply.

The local language rule

For Officer Scale I and the Office Assistant post, proficiency in the local language is an essential qualification. You prove it by having studied the State's language in Standard VIII or above. If you have not, you get six months from joining to acquire it, which the Bank's board can extend but not beyond probation. The notification does not describe a separate Language Proficiency Test for RRBs.

Growth

Scale II and Scale III posts are recruited directly through a single exam and interview, and movement between scales inside a Regional Rural Bank follows that bank's promotion rules. Pay rises with annual increments and with each step to a higher scale.

How to get the post

  • Prelims: 80 questions for 80 marks in 45 minutes (Reasoning 40, Quantitative Aptitude 40), with sectional cut-offs. It is a screening round.
  • Mains: 200 questions for 200 marks in 120 minutes: Reasoning (50 marks), Computer Knowledge (20), General Awareness (40), English or Hindi (40) and Quantitative Aptitude (50).
  • Interview: 100 marks, with a minimum of 40 per cent (35 per cent for SC, ST, OBC and persons with benchmark disability). The exam and interview are weighted 80:20.

Wrong answers cost one-quarter of the marks. Fees are ₹850 for others and ₹175 for SC, ST and persons with benchmark disability. The calendar is tentative: Scale I Prelims on 21 and 22 November 2026 and Mains on 20 December 2026. See the IBPS RRB PO and Clerk guide and the IBPS RRB notification guide.
