IBPS RRB PO is the Officer Scale I (Assistant Manager) exam and IBPS RRB Clerk is the Office Assistant (Multipurpose) exam, both for Regional Rural Banks. In the 2026 cycle (CRP RRBs-XV), both have an 80-question, 45-minute prelims of Reasoning and Numerical or Quantitative Aptitude only, with no English section. Their mains has 200 questions for 200 marks in 120 minutes, with a choice between an English and a Hindi language paper. Scale I adds an interview, while Office Assistant has none.

This page follows the RRBs-XV notification dated 1 September 2026. The RRB exams now fall in a November to January window, rather than the August to October slot of earlier years.

The RRB posts and how they are selected

PostGroupSelection
Office Assistant (Multipurpose), known as RRB ClerkBPrelims, then mains. No interview; merit is on mains marks only
Officer Scale I (Assistant Manager), known as RRB POAPrelims, mains, then interview
Officer Scale II (Manager): General Banking Officer and specialists such as Law, IT, CA, Agricultural, Marketing, TreasuryASingle exam, then interview
Officer Scale III (Senior Manager)ASingle exam, then interview

You can apply for Office Assistant and also for one officer post (Scale I, II or III). Each needs its own application and fee. For officers, the interview carries 100 marks, with a minimum of 40% (35% for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates), and final merit is exam and interview in an 80 : 20 ratio. Interviews are coordinated by the Nodal RRBs with NABARD and IBPS.

In the 2026 cycle, registration ran from 1 to 21 September 2026 and was extended to 27 September 2026 by a corrigendum. The fee was ₹175 for SC/ST/PwBD candidates (and ex-servicemen for Office Assistant) and ₹850 for others. Wrong answers cost 0.25 of the marks assigned to the question in prelims, mains and single exams.

IBPS's tentative 2026-27 calendar shows these windows, and IBPS reserves the right to change them.

RRB prelims pattern (Scale I and Office Assistant)

SectionQuestionsMarksTime
Reasoning404025 min
Numerical Ability (Office Assistant) or Quantitative Aptitude (Scale I)404020 min
Total808045 min

There is a sectional cut-off in both tests. Prelims has no English paper, which is often a relief for candidates who are weak in English. Reasoning gives you 37.5 seconds per question and the numerical test gives you 30.

RRB mains pattern (Scale I and Office Assistant)

The two posts share a structure. Marks now differ by section, so older splits no longer apply.

SectionQuestionsMarksTime
Reasoning405030 min
Computer Knowledge402015 min
General Awareness404015 min
English Language or Hindi Language (choose one)404030 min
Numerical Ability (Office Assistant) or Quantitative Aptitude (Scale I)405030 min
Total200200120 min

The language choice matters. Both English and Hindi papers carry 40 questions and 40 marks, so pick the one in which you are stronger. A regional language such as Tamil is not an option for this section.

Computer Knowledge and General Awareness get only 15 minutes each for 40 questions, about 22 seconds per question. These are recall sections: you either know the answer or you do not. Reasoning and the numerical paper carry 50 marks each and give you 45 seconds per question.

Single exam: Scale II and Scale III

Scale II General Banking Officer and Scale III share one table: Reasoning (40 questions, 50 marks, 30 minutes), Computer Knowledge (40, 20, 15), Financial Awareness (40, 40, 15), English or Hindi (40, 40, 30) and Quantitative Aptitude & DI (40, 50, 30). The total is 200 questions, 200 marks and 120 minutes.

Scale II specialists have a different paper: Professional Knowledge (40 questions, 40 marks, 30 minutes), Reasoning (40, 40, 30), Financial Awareness (40, 40, 15), English or Hindi (40, 20, 30), Computer Knowledge (40, 20, 15) and Quantitative Aptitude & DI (40, 40, 30). The total is 240 questions, 200 marks and 150 minutes.

RRB syllabus: commonly tested topics

IBPS publishes section names, not topic lists, so these are the areas commonly tested rather than an official syllabus.

  • Reasoning: seating arrangement, puzzles, syllogism, inequalities, blood relations, direction sense, coding-decoding, order and ranking, and alphanumeric series. Mains adds input-output, data sufficiency and logical reasoning.
  • Numerical Ability or Quantitative Aptitude: simplification and approximation, number series, quadratic equations, data interpretation, and arithmetic chapters such as percentage, ratio, average, profit and loss, interest, time and work, and time-speed-distance. See quantitative aptitude for bank exams.
  • Computer Knowledge: computer fundamentals, hardware and software, networking, MS Office, the internet and security. The computer awareness page covers revision.
  • General Awareness (Scale I and Office Assistant) or Financial Awareness (Scale II and III): current affairs from the last four to six months, banking and RBI terms, financial awareness, the Union Budget and government schemes. See banking awareness.
  • English or Hindi language: for English, reading comprehension, cloze test, error spotting, sentence improvement, para jumbles and fillers. For Hindi, check the information handout for the question types.

Local language: an essential qualification

For Office Assistant and Scale I, proficiency in the local language is an essential qualification. You can prove it by having studied the state's language in Standard VIII or above. If you have not, you get 6 months from joining to acquire it. The Board can extend that, but not beyond probation. The notification does not describe a separate Language Proficiency Test for RRBs, so this differs from the Local Language Proficiency Test in IBPS Clerk.

Prelims and mains for these two posts are offered in English, Hindi and the state's regional language. For Tamil Nadu the options are English, Hindi and Tamil, and for Puducherry they are English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. In Tamil Nadu the participating Regional Rural Bank in this notification is Tamil Nadu Grama Bank, headquartered in Salem, and the language is Tamil. No local-language requirement is described for Scale II and III officers.

Eligibility in brief

Office Assistant18 to 28 years
Officer Scale I18 to 30 years

Education is judged as on 21 September 2026. Office Assistant and Scale I need a bachelor's degree in any discipline, and Scale I gives preference to fields such as agriculture, horticulture, veterinary science, IT, management, law, economics and accountancy. Computer knowledge is desirable. Scale II General Banking Officer needs graduation with at least 50% and two years as an officer in a bank or financial institution. A corrigendum later extended registration to 27 September, so check it for any change to the qualification date. The bank exam eligibility page compares these rules with IBPS PO, Clerk and SBI.
