IBPS Clerk is now officially the Customer Service Associate (CSA). The CRP CSA-XVI notification (1 August 2026) prints the basic pay scale as ₹24,050-1340/3-28,070-1650/3-33,020-2000/4-41,020-2340/7-57,400-4400/1-61,800-2680/1-64,480, plus allowances as per the allotted bank's rules. The scale starts at ₹24,050 and ends at ₹64,480.

Pay as printed in the notification

Step of the scaleIncrementsPay reached
Startnone₹24,050
First3 of ₹1,340₹28,070
Second3 of ₹1,650₹33,020
Third4 of ₹2,000₹41,020
Fourth7 of ₹2,340₹57,400
Fifth1 of ₹4,400₹61,800
Last1 of ₹2,680₹64,480

That is 19 increments in all. The same scale is printed for the SBI Junior Associate in 2026, but SBI starts graduates at ₹26,730; see the SBI Junior Associate salary. The notification does not state a rupee total, so treat any "in-hand" figure for the CSA as an estimate. The salary hub explains how to read a scale.

What is added and what is taken off

Allowances such as dearness allowance, house rent allowance and city compensatory allowance are set by each bank and depend on where you are posted, and the rates change over time. Deductions include income tax and the retirement-scheme contribution. Since a CSA is posted in the State or Union Territory you applied for, your posting city decides the allowance slab.

Posting, language and growth

  • State-wise recruitment: you apply for vacancies in one State or UT only. For Tamil Nadu the notification lists English, Hindi and Tamil as the exam languages (the English section is in English only).
  • Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT): you must be proficient in the official language of the State or UT you chose. If your Class 10 or higher mark sheet shows you studied that language, you are exempt. Otherwise the test is held after provisional allotment and before joining, and failing it means no appointment.
  • Growth: promotion from the clerical cadre follows the allotted bank's promotion policy, including routes to officer posts in each bank. Pay rises with annual increments.

How to get the post

  • Prelims: 100 questions for 100 marks in 60 minutes (English 30, Numerical Ability 35, Reasoning 35), with sectional cut-offs.
  • Mains: 160 questions for 200 marks in 125 minutes (General or Financial Awareness 40 for 50 marks, General English 40 for 40, Reasoning 40 for 60, Quantitative Aptitude 40 for 50). There is no separate Computer Aptitude section in CSA-XVI.
  • No interview: final merit is on Mains marks only.

Wrong answers carry a penalty of one-quarter of the marks for the question. Eligibility: age 20 to 28 as on 1 August 2026, a graduate on the day you register, and a certificate, diploma or degree in computer operations or computers studied as a subject. Fees are ₹850 for others and ₹175 for SC, ST, persons with benchmark disability and ex-servicemen. See the IBPS Clerk syllabus and exam pattern and the PO vs Clerk comparison.
