An IBPS Clerk, now recruited as Customer Service Associate (CSA), starts at a basic pay of ₹24,050 a month. The scale in the 2026 notification runs from ₹24,050 up to ₹64,480.

The pay scale

The CRP CSA-XVI notification prints the basic pay scale as:

₹24,050 - 1,340 (3 stages) - 28,070 - 1,650 (3 stages) - 33,020 - 2,000 (4 stages) - 41,020 - 2,340 (7 stages) - 57,400 - 4,400 (1 stage) - 61,800 - 2,680 (1 stage) - 64,480

Your basic pay moves up through those stages as you complete years of service. The scale gives basic pay only. What reaches your account also depends on allowances under the rules of the bank you are allotted to, and on the city you are posted to, so the same scale can mean different totals in different places.

Old figures are out of date

Many articles still quote a clerk starting basic of about ₹19,900. That belongs to the older scale. Use the figure printed in the notification for the cycle you are applying to.

How SBI Junior Associate compares

SBI's clerical post is the Junior Associate (Customer Support & Sales). It uses the same scale (₹24,050 to ₹64,480), but the 2026 advertisement gives a starting basic of ₹26,730, which is ₹24,050 plus two advance increments for graduates. The advertisement also quotes total starting emoluments of around ₹46,000 a month at a metro such as Mumbai; this is SBI's own estimate for that city, not a guarantee.

What the job involves

The post is in the clerical cadre. You apply for one State or Union Territory only; see applying in more than one state. There is no interview, and selection is based on the Mains marks, followed by a local language test where needed; see IBPS Clerk interview.

If you are choosing between clerk and officer tracks, read bank PO vs clerk. PO starts at ₹48,480; see SBI PO salary. The clerk paper itself is covered in the IBPS Clerk syllabus and exam pattern.

For the full post profile, including duties and promotion path, see the IBPS Clerk salary and career page.
