What is the 15% All India Quota in NEET?
On this page
The All India Quota (AIQ) is the 15% of seats in state government medical and dental colleges that are filled through national counselling by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), so that candidates from any state can compete for them. The other 85% are state quota seats, filled by each state. In Tamil Nadu in 2026-27, the AIQ share is 753 MBBS seats.
What MCC counsels
MCC (the Medical Counselling Committee, under the Directorate General of Health Services) runs counselling for:
- the 15% All India Quota seats in state government medical and dental colleges;
- 100% of seats in deemed universities;
- central universities and institutions, such as BHU, AMU, Delhi University colleges and IP University;
- AIIMS and JIPMER;
- ESIC colleges, including the insured-person ward quota.
These details are widely reported and were not verified against MCC's own site for this page, because mcc.nic.in could not be opened. Treat MCC's information bulletin as the authority.
How the process runs
- Online registration and fee payment.
- Choice filling and then choice locking.
- Seat allotment.
- Download of the provisional allotment letter and reporting to the college.
There are Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and an online stray vacancy round. MCC's 2026 round dates, as reported by secondary sources, were: Round 1 registration 5 to 12 August, Round 2 on 3 to 8 September, Round 3 on 22 to 27 September and the stray vacancy round on 12 to 14 October, with results and reporting dates following each. MCC revises dates often, so treat these as scheduled rather than final.
Reservation in AIQ seats
Central reservation applies to AIQ and central seats: 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 10% for EWS and 5% horizontal for PwBD, as widely reported. This is separate from Tamil Nadu's 69% community reservation, which applies to the state quota (see community reservation in Tamil Nadu MBBS).
How it fits with state counselling
You can compete in MCC counselling and in your state's counselling in the same year. Candidates who joined a seat up to Round 3 of AIQ or the state quota cannot take part in later rounds in Tamil Nadu.
