Is NEET 2027 computer-based?
On this page
Yes, it has been announced. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on 15 May 2026 that NEET-UG will be held as a computer-based test (CBT) from 2027, and that the 720-mark format across Physics, Chemistry and Biology stays. As of 9 October 2026, NTA has not released the NEET 2027 information bulletin, so the detailed rules are not official yet.
What is confirmed and what is not
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Computer-based mode from 2027 | Announced by the Education Minister, 15 May 2026 |
| 720 marks across Physics, Chemistry and Biology | Announced as unchanged |
| Exam dates, shifts, centres, normalisation | Not notified by NTA |
| Syllabus change for 2027 | Nothing official says so |
News reports have described a multi-day, multi-shift exam with score normalisation. Treat that as unofficial until the bulletin arrives. This page does not give 2027 dates, shift counts or any normalisation method, because none has been published.
Why the change
The announcement followed the disruption of NEET-UG 2026: the exam of 3 May 2026 was cancelled after a paper leak and a re-examination was held on 21 June 2026 (the full story is in why NEET 2026 was re-conducted). The move also follows the 2024 call by the Radhakrishnan high-level committee for computer-based testing.
What NEET 2026 used
NEET 2026 was a pen-and-paper exam with answers marked on an OMR sheet. The pattern that applies today is 180 compulsory questions for 720 marks in 3 hours, with +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one. See the NEET exam pattern for the table.
How to prepare now
- Prepare content and marking exactly as you would for the 2025 and 2026 papers. Nothing official suggests otherwise.
- Take a share of your full-length mocks on a screen, so reading and answering on a computer feels ordinary.
- When the bulletin is published, re-check the question count, duration, marking and any normalisation rule before your final mock phase.
Your mock routine matters more than the mode. The NEET mock tests guide explains how often to sit full papers and how to analyse them. PrepMatic's mocks are taken on screen and match the real paper's length and marking.
Official source
NTA publishes the information bulletin and all notices for NEET-UG at neet.nta.nic.in and nta.ac.in. Until the 2027 bulletin appears, treat every date or detail about NEET 2027 that you see elsewhere as unconfirmed.
