Who conducts NEET counselling in Tamil Nadu?
On this page
NEET counselling for Tamil Nadu seats is conducted by the Selection Committee of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DME&R), at 162 Periyar E.V.R. High Road, Kilpauk, Chennai 600 010. It is also called the Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee and works under the Health and Family Welfare Department. The All India Quota seats are a separate counselling run by MCC.
What the Selection Committee fills
- 85% of seats in government medical and dental colleges (the state quota).
- Government Quota seats in self-financing and state private university colleges. The prospectus puts the Government Quota at 50% or more of their seats, the Management Quota at 35% or less and the NRI quota at 15%. The Management Quota has its own prospectus.
- Special categories: the 7.5% government school quota, PwD, sports and ex-servicemen.
Tamil Nadu also has particular arrangements for the Christian Medical College, Vellore: 30% state government quota merit list, 20% Tamil Nadu-native Christian minority list and 50% CMC quota, following a Supreme Court order.
What it does not fill
Deemed universities are counselled by MCC, not by the state. Fifteen per cent of government college seats, which is 753 MBBS seats in 2026-27, also go to MCC's All India Quota. Read what the All India Quota is.
Websites and notices
The Committee's notices and prospectus are posted at tnmedicalselection.net, and, according to the prospectus, application and counselling are at www.tnmedicalselection.org. If you are unsure which site is correct, use the notice board at tnmedicalselection.net to find the current links.
How the state merit list is made
The merit list is based on your NEET score among the candidates who applied. Tamil Nadu runs separate tracks for the 7.5% government school quota and the general 92.5%, and the special categories are counselled ahead of the general category. In 2026-27 the rounds were Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and a stray round. Choices cannot be changed once locked.
Dates are published as notices
The 2026-27 application opened on 29 June 2026, provisional rank lists followed on 12 August 2026, and Round 1 allotments on 27 August 2026. For 2027, nothing is announced until the Committee publishes a prospectus, so watch the notice board.
For the step-by-step guide, read Tamil Nadu NEET counselling, and for the 7.5% quota see the 7.5% quota explained.
