Can I write NEET in Tamil?
On this page
Yes. Tamil is one of the 13 languages in which NEET-UG is held, and the Tamil paper is offered at exam centres in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. You choose Tamil as your medium in the application form, and you cannot change it afterwards.
What the Tamil paper looks like
If you choose a language other than English, you get a bilingual test booklet: your chosen language alongside English. For Tamil, that means every question appears in Tamil and in English in the same booklet. The pattern is the same as for every other language, 180 questions for 720 marks; only the language of the booklet differs.
Which version counts if they differ
If the two versions of a question are not identical, the English version is treated as final. This is a long-standing NTA rule and it is quoted in coaching summaries of the bulletin, so check the exact wording in the latest information bulletin.
In practice, this means one habit: whenever a Tamil sentence feels ambiguous or a technical term looks unfamiliar, read the English line next to it. You do not need to be fluent in scientific English, only comfortable with the key terms.
The medium is locked once you apply
The medium you pick in the application cannot be edited later. NTA's FAQ for the 2026 re-examination confirmed that the medium could not be changed even for the re-exam, so there is no second chance to switch after you see your centre. Decide before you submit the form, not after.
Choosing between Tamil and English
Pick the language you read fastest and most accurately under pressure, and then prepare the other half. If you studied in Tamil medium, Tamil gives you comfort with the question stems, while the English line is your safety net. A practical habit is to keep a two-column glossary of Biology and Chemistry terms, Tamil on one side and English on the other, so the English line is never a barrier.
The NEET preparation in Tamil guide covers terminology and resources in detail. For how the paper is built, see the NEET exam pattern.
