What is added to basic pay
Dearness allowance is added on basic pay, and house rent allowance follows the place of posting. Annual increments move pay one cell down Level 10 on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October, according to your joining date.
What the job involves
The notification names the department and the districts but does not describe duties. Posts in this department's district offices typically involve handling land and revenue records and files, supporting revenue collection and certificate work, and disaster-related reporting. Do not confuse it with the Level 8 VAO post, which works at village level.
Promotion
The Revenue Department has its own ladder of promotion posts above the ministerial grades, governed by service rules, seniority and departmental tests. Each promotion carries a higher pay level, and the annual increment raises pay in the meantime.
How to get the post
- Exam: Group 2A. A common prelims screens candidates, then the Mains has a qualifying Tamil Eligibility Test and a computer-based Paper II of 200 questions for 300 marks. Rank depends on Paper II alone and there is no interview in the 2025 scheme.
- Age as on 1 July 2025: 18 to 32 for Others, and no maximum for reserved categories (below 60).
