The notification prints "Level 12" only; the range comes from Schedule-I of G.O. Ms. No. 303 (11 October 2017), summarised on the salary hub.

Why Level 12 pays so much more than Level 10

In the 2017 schedule, Levels 2 to 10 come from the old Pay Band 1 and Levels 11 to 20 from Pay Band 2. The table shows the effect: Level 10 starts at ₹20,600, while Level 11 starts at ₹35,400 and Level 12 at ₹35,600. So a Senior Inspector starts ₹15,000 above a Group 2A Assistant, and about ₹16,100 above a Group 4 Junior Assistant. Only a few Group 2A posts sit above Level 10: Level 12 (this post, Assistant Inspector in Local Fund Audit and Audit Inspector in HR&CE) and Level 11 (Supervisor or Junior Superintendent in Agricultural Marketing).

What is added to basic pay

Dearness allowance is added on basic pay, and house rent allowance and any city compensatory allowance follow the place of posting. The CPS marker means a monthly pension contribution is deducted, together with professional tax and income tax. Annual increments move you one cell down Level 12 on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July or 1 October, set by the date you join.

What the job involves

The notification does not describe duties. The post is in the Milk Production and Dairy Development Department, so expect field and inspection work connected with milk producers' societies and dairy units.

Promotion

The Dairy Development Subordinate Service has higher inspector and officer grades, with promotion by seniority and the department's service rules, each step bringing a higher level. Increments raise pay in between.

How to get the post

  • Exam: Group 2A. A common prelims screens candidates, then the Mains has a qualifying Tamil Eligibility Test and a computer-based Paper II of 200 questions for 300 marks. No interview in the 2025 scheme.
  • Age as on 1 July 2025: 18 to 32 for Others, and no maximum for reserved categories (below 60).
  • Preparation: the Group 2 and 2A comparison and the Group 2 exam pattern.
