Exam glossary · TNPSC
TNPSC notification, notification number and Advt No.
On this page
A TNPSC notification is the official document that opens a recruitment. It lists the posts, vacancies, eligibility, exam scheme, syllabus, fees and dates, and it is the document you follow. Each carries a notification number and an advertisement (Advt) number: Group 4 2026 is Notification No. 11/2026, Advt No. 747, dated 06.10.2026.
Reading the numbers
| Recruitment | Notification No. | Advt No. | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group 4 (CCSE-IV) | 11/2026 | 747 | 06.10.2026 |
| Group 2 and 2A (CCSE-II) | 11/2025 | 713 | 15.07.2025 |
| Group 1 (CCSE-I) | 04/2025 | 706 | 01.04.2025 |
The first number is a serial with the year. The Advt number is a separate running number. Use both when you search TNPSC's site or discuss a recruitment, because the same group has a new notification every cycle. For the CCSE labels see CCSE.
What a notification contains
For the Group 4 2026 notification, the main parts are:
- dates, including the last date to apply and the correction window;
- posts and vacancies, with post codes;
- eligibility: age, qualification, Tamil knowledge and conditions such as the five-year service rule;
- the scheme of examination and what happens after it;
- annexures for application and fees (Annexure I), reservation (Annexure II), the syllabus (Annexure III, with the syllabus code) and OMR instructions (Annexure IV).
Planner versus notification
The Annual Planner is a plan, not a notification. TNPSC's own planner says exams may be added or deleted, and that the syllabus and scheme can change until the notification is published. In 2026 the planner gave 20.12.2026 for Group 4, but the notification set 10.01.2027. When the two differ, the notification is the one to follow. See annual planner.
How to use it
- Read the dates, eligibility and scheme paragraphs before anything else.
- Download the PDF yourself from tnpsc.gov.in. Summaries on other sites can be out of date or wrong.
- Re-read the notification when a result or counselling list comes out, since vacancies are tentative until counselling.
An example
You read that the Group 4 last date is 05.11.2026. A forwarded message says the date is 15.11.2026. You check the notification and find that 05.11.2026, 11.59 PM is stated there. The notification wins.
Time-sensitive guides for each exam, such as the Group 4 notification page, summarise a notification; the PDF itself is the authority.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between notification number and Advt number?

The notification. The planner is tentative.
