Post codes in TNPSC notifications
On this page
A post code is the number TNPSC assigns to each post in a notification's vacancy table. The Group 4 2026 notification lists 46 post codes with 6,574 vacancies in total, which are tentative. The code identifies the post in the vacancy table and in later documents such as counselling lists.

What the code is used for
- Finding your post. The vacancy table gives each post's service, vacancies and pay by code.
- Following the result. Counselling lists refer to posts by code. The Group 4 2024 counselling list, for example, covers codes including 1655 and 1095, and those two codes appear again in the 2026 notification, so they were not reassigned between cycles.
- Avoiding mix-ups. Several posts share a name. Junior Assistant has Non Security and Security versions and an Accounts version in a corporation, each with its own code.
What a code does not tell you
It does not tell you the pay level, the qualification or the age limit, which come from the table next to it. The code also does not guarantee a post exists in the next cycle, because TNPSC modifies vacancies before counselling and notifies posts afresh each cycle.
An example
You read that your target is "Junior Assistant". The notification has three codes with that name: 2600 for Non Security, 2400 for Security and 3848 for the corporation's Accounts post. Their vacancies, pay basis and eligibility differ. You find the code you want, then its row in the eligibility table.
See the TNPSC vacancies guide for how vacancy tables are read, and pay matrix for the levels.
