Eligibility in brief
- Qualification: pass in SSLC. Some corporation Junior Assistant posts ask for a degree, for example a B.Com, so check the post.
- Age as on 01.07.2026, most SSLC-level posts: 18 minimum; maximum 30 for Others, 32 for BC(OBCM), BCM and MBC/DC, and 35 for SC, SC(A) and ST. PwBD: 40, 42 and 45. Ex-servicemen: 48 and 53. Destitute widows: 35.
- Higher qualification: reserved-category candidates with an HSC or degree have no maximum age (below 60) for most posts. See higher-qualification age relaxation.
- Tamil: adequate knowledge of Tamil is required, as explained under Second Class Language Test.
How selection works
Junior Assistant is one of the posts selected through the single Group 4 written paper: 200 questions, 300 marks, 3 hours, no interview. After the exam come on-screen certificate verification at 1:3 for general candidates and 1:2 for reserved candidates, then counselling at 1:3 and 1:1.5. See shortlist ratio.
Why corporation posts need care
The Junior Assistant (Accounts) post in the TN Power Distribution Corporation is paid on a board scale, not the Level 8 of the ministerial posts. Do not read the ministerial pay level across to it.
An example
An SSLC pass aged 29 in the Others category is within the Junior Assistant age limit of 30. If the candidate wants the Accounts post in the corporation, the notification's educational requirement for that post decides whether SSLC is enough.
For the paper that selects Junior Assistants see the Group 4 exam pattern, and for the sister posts see VAO and Typist.
