No. The IBPS PO/MT-XVI notification asks for a candidate who is already a graduate on the day of registration. A final-year student whose results are awaited is not eligible for that cycle.

The exact requirement

The 2026 notification says a candidate must hold a valid mark-sheet or degree certificate showing that they are a graduate on the day they register. The final result had to be declared on or before 21 July 2026, the last registration date. Graduation in any discipline qualifies, and no minimum percentage is set.

A "result awaited" status does not meet the rule: the mark-sheet or degree certificate has to exist and show that you are a graduate when you register.

How the main bank exams compare

Exam (2026 cycle)Rule on degree timingDate
IBPS PO/MT-XVIGraduate on the day of registrationResult declared by 21 July 2026
IBPS Clerk (CSA-XVI)Graduate on the day of registrationEducation as on 21 August 2026
SBI POFinal-year students may apply provisionallyProof of passing by 30 September 2026
SBI Junior AssociateFinal-year students may apply provisionallyProof of passing by 31 December 2026

IBPS applies the same rule across its PO, clerk, specialist officer and regional rural bank recruitments.

What a final-year student can do

  • Apply to SBI instead. SBI PO and SBI Junior Associate both allow provisional applications; see final-year students and SBI PO.
  • Use the year to prepare. Start the basics now, so that the next IBPS PO cycle finds you a graduate with a head start. IBPS PO has no attempt limit, so waiting costs you nothing on that count; see attempts in IBPS PO.
  • Plan around dates. The 2026 PO notification came out on 30 June 2026, with registration closing on 21 July. Do not assume next year's dates; each notification states its own, so check when your final results will be declared.

The rule is written into each cycle's notification, so re-read it before you apply. See the bank exam eligibility guide for the rest of the criteria.
