Exam questions answered · TNPSC
What is the photo size for the TNPSC application?
The TNPSC application photograph must be a colour JPG of 20 to 50 KB, 4.5 cm high by 3.5 cm wide, with your name and the date of photography printed in a strip at the bottom. The signature must be a JPG of 10 to 20 KB. Selfies and phone photographs are not allowed.
The specifications
Notification No. 11/2026 (Annexure I) gives two sets of specs: one for the OTR and one for each application.
| File | Requirement |
|---|---|
| OTR photograph | 20 to 50 KB, file name Photograph.jpg, 200 DPI |
| OTR signature | 10 to 20 KB, file name Signature.jpg, 200 DPI |
| Application photograph | Colour, passport size, white background, studio-taken on or after the notification date, 20 to 50 KB JPG |
| Application signature | Signed inside a 6.0 by 2.0 cm box (230 by 75 pixels) in blue or black ink, scanned at 200 DPI, 10 to 20 KB JPG |
The photograph layout
The application photo is 4.5 cm (170 pixels) high and 3.5 cm (130 pixels) wide. That height has two parts:
- The image: 3.0 cm (115 pixels) high
- The name and date strip: 1.5 cm (55 pixels) high, with your name and the date the photo was taken printed on it
The photograph must be taken in a studio on or after the date of the notification, and selfies and phone photographs are not allowed. So an old photograph from a previous application cannot be reused, even if the size is right.
Practical steps
- Ask the studio for a digital copy with the name and date strip, and say it is for TNPSC.
- Check the file size in KB before uploading, and keep it within 20 to 50 KB. Compress it if it is larger.
- Sign inside the 6.0 by 2.0 cm box with a blue or black pen, scan it at 200 DPI, and keep the file within 10 to 20 KB.
- Keep the files with the correct names for the OTR upload.
If you upload a wrong file, check whether the notification lets you replace it in the correction window. See editing a TNPSC application. The OTR setup is covered in the OTR and how to apply guide.
