What concessions do differently-abled candidates get in TNPSC?
On this page
Persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) get a 4 percent reservation, a full exemption from the exam fee, a higher maximum age and relaxations in the Tamil papers. The details differ by group and post, and they are listed in each notification.
The main concessions
| Concession | What it is |
|---|---|
| Reservation | 4 percent of posts (Group 4, 2026) |
| Exam fee | Full exemption |
| Exam centre | One preference instead of two |
| Age, Group 4 (as on 1 July 2026) | 40 for Others, 42 for BC/MBC, 45 for SC/ST on most posts |
| Age, VAO | 40 for Others, 50 for reserved categories |
| Age, Group 2/2A (2025) | 42 for Others; no maximum for most reserved candidates |
| Age, Group 1 (2025) | 44 for Others, 49 for reserved categories |
These come from Annexures I and II and para 4.1 of Notification No. 11/2026, and from the Group 2/2A and Group 1 notifications of 2025.
Concessions in the Tamil papers
- Group 4 Part A. A differently-abled candidate who studied only in English can take General English (SSLC standard) in place of the Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test. The same 40 percent (60 marks) is needed.
- Group 2/2A mains Paper I. Persons with benchmark disabilities can be exempted from the Tamil Eligibility Test.
- Group 1 mains Paper I. The Tamil Eligibility Test may also be exempted.
The conditions for the exemptions are in the notification, so read them if you plan to claim one. See is Tamil compulsory for Group 4 for the Part A rule.
Posts that are not open to everyone
Eligibility depends on the post. For Group 1, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Category 1) post is not open to persons with benchmark disabilities. Forest Guard and Forest Watcher include a physical standards test and an endurance test. Check the post table for suitability before you apply.
Claiming a concession
Claim the concession in your application and keep your disability certificate ready for verification. A false fee-concession claim leads to rejection and a one-year debarment. The fee rules are in who gets fee exemption, and the full set of reservations is in the community reservation answer.
For age limits by group, see Group 4, Group 2 and Group 1.
