The IBPS PO/MT-XVI notification was released on 30 June 2026 for Probationary Officer and Management Trainee posts in 11 public sector banks. Online registration ran from 1 to 21 July 2026, so this cycle is closed to new applicants. Selection has five stages: online prelims, online mains with a descriptive test, a Personality Test, an interview and provisional allotment. This page records what the notification actually says, so you can check your own eligibility and plan for the next cycle.

State Bank of India is not among them: it runs its own recruitment, covered on the SBI PO notification page. IBPS PO is an all-India cadre, so you can be posted anywhere in India or outside it.

IBPS calls its calendar tentative and reserves the right to change dates, so treat every date above as a plan, not a promise. This page cannot tell you whether a particular stage result is out. Check the CRP updates page on ibps.in, and see how bank exam results work for what each result means.

Eligibility in the 2026 notification

Age. 20 to 30 years as on 1 July 2026, meaning born between 2 July 1996 and 1 July 2006, both dates included.

CategoryUpper-age relaxation
SC / ST5 years
OBC (non-creamy layer)3 years
Persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD)10 years
Ex-servicemen and commissioned officers (including ECOs/SSCOs with 5 years' service)5 years

SC/ST/OBC relaxation can be combined with only one of the PwBD or ex-servicemen relaxations. There is no reservation for ex-servicemen in the officers' cadre, although they still get the age relaxation.

Education. A graduation in any discipline. You must hold a valid mark sheet or degree certificate showing that you are a graduate on the day you register, and the final result must have been declared on or before 21 July 2026, the last registration date. The notification sets no minimum percentage for PO.

Nationality. An Indian citizen, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1962, or a person of Indian origin migrating from specified countries who holds an eligibility certificate.

What the notification does not contain. We read the 2026 notification and found no limit on the number of attempts, no CIBIL clause and no local-language test. Do not rely on older articles that say otherwise. The SBI PO advertisement differs on several points: its minimum age is 21, final-year students can apply provisionally and attempts are capped. The bank exam eligibility guide compares the rules.

Pay and posting

The notification gives the basic pay scale as ₹48,480-2000/7-62,480-2340/2-67,160-2680/7-85,920, plus allowances as per the rules of the bank you are allotted. We do not quote an in-hand salary because it depends on the bank and the city. For a comparison of the PO and clerical tracks, read PO vs clerk.

The selection process in brief

StageWhat it isMarks and time
PrelimsEnglish 30 questions, Quantitative Aptitude 35, Reasoning 35, each separately timed100 questions, 100 marks, 60 minutes
Mains (objective)Reasoning, General/Economy/Banking Awareness with digital and financial awareness, English, Data Analysis and Interpretation170 questions, 200 marks, 160 minutes
Mains (descriptive)Essay and comprehension2 questions, 25 marks, 30 minutes
Personality TestSelf-report profile placed before the interview panelNot marked, but attendance is mandatory
InterviewCommon interview100 marks, minimum 40% (35% for reserved categories)

Prelims only qualifies you for mains, with a sectional cut-off in each of the three tests. Mains also has sectional and total minimum scores, and results are normalised across sessions by the equi-percentile method. If two candidates tie on final merit, the older one ranks higher. The marks per section are uneven (for example Reasoning carries 40 marks in the prelims and English 30), so use the section tables on the IBPS PO syllabus and exam pattern page rather than assuming one mark per question.

Vacancies

The notification states an indicative vacancy figure, and IBPS revises vacancies by corrigendum after release. News reports suggested the PO figure went up after the notification, but we did not find the corrigendum, so we do not quote a number. IBPS did the same for the clerical cycle: its CSA-XVI vacancies were updated by a corrigendum dated 29 September 2026 (see the IBPS Clerk notification). Always read the latest corrigendum on ibps.in before you rely on a vacancy count.

How applying works

  1. Download the detailed notification from the CRP PO/MT page on ibps.in and read the eligibility section against the cut-off dates above.
  2. Open the online application link given in the notification and register with your details.
  3. Upload the images and declarations the notification asks for, in the sizes it specifies.
  4. Pay the fee online and save the confirmation.

The notification lists the exact documents and their specifications, and these can change between cycles, so follow the notification of the cycle you are applying for.

Using the gap before the next notification

IBPS published its 2026-27 calendar on 16 January 2026, months before this notification, so the next calendar is the first thing to watch. It has not announced a date for a 2027 notification and we do not predict one. Meanwhile, settle the eligibility questions that sink applications: graduate status on the registration date, your age on the cut-off date and the category certificate you will use. Then build your preparation around the IBPS PO preparation strategy. The full list of exams is on the bank exams hub.

Planning your preparation with PrepMatic

A new notification is the moment to find out which section is weakest. PrepMatic's free bank-exam assessment (about 15 questions, no timer) shows a projected score, a readiness percentage and your weakest subjects among Quant, Reasoning and English. You then set your exam date, daily hours and study days to get a plan, and take full-length or custom mocks focused on your weak subjects, with negative marking applied in the results.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a CIBIL score requirement for IBPS PO 2026?

The 2026 IBPS PO notification contains no CIBIL clause. SBI's PO advertisement briefly had a credit-history clause and removed it by a corrigendum dated 1 July 2026. Read your own cycle's notification, because rules can change.

Can final-year students apply for IBPS PO?

Not in this cycle. IBPS asks that you are a graduate on the day you register and that your final result is declared by the last registration date, which was 21 July 2026. SBI PO is different: it accepts final-year students provisionally.

How many attempts do I get in IBPS PO?

The 2026 notification states no limit on attempts. The age limit still applies, so your attempts end when you cross the upper age limit including relaxation.

Is there an interview in IBPS PO?

Yes. After mains there is a Personality Test, which is not marked but must be attended, followed by a 100-mark interview. Final merit is Mains 80 and Interview 20.

When will the IBPS PO 2027 notification be released?

IBPS has not announced it. The 2026 notification came on 30 June 2026, after the year's tentative calendar was published on 16 January 2026. Watch ibps.in for the next calendar.
