படர்மெலிந் திரங்கல்: Complainings

படர்மெலிந் திரங்கல், complainings (literally "wasting away with sorrow and lamenting"), has the wife (தலைவி) speaking in her husband's absence. Her pain has grown too large to hide, and she is too shy to tell the person who caused it.
Kural 1161 says she would hide her pain, but it swells like water drawn from a spring. Kural 1162 says she can neither conceal it nor tell it without shame to the one who caused it. Kural 1163 gives a clear image of her state, in which love and shame hang on either end of a carrying pole across her soul, borne by a body that cannot take it. Kurals 1164 to 1166 use the sea: there is a sea of love but no raft to cross it, and its pain is greater than its pleasure. Kural 1167 says she has swum the flood without sighting the shore, and even at midnight she is the only one awake. Kural 1168 follows with the night that puts every creature to sleep and leaves her alone. Kural 1169 says that the long nights of these days are crueler than the cruel one himself, and Kural 1170 ends on her wish that her eyes could travel to him as quickly as her thoughts do, so that they would not have to swim in tears.
