"No maximum age limit" in TNPSC notifications
On this page
"No maximum age limit" in a TNPSC notification does not mean any age is accepted. The Group 4 2026 notification defines it as not having completed 60 years, and the Group 2 2025 notification treats it the same way. It removes the upper age cap set for a category, and nothing else.
Where the phrase appears
| Exam | Who has no maximum age limit |
|---|---|
| Group 2 and 2A (2025) | BC, BCM, MBC/DC, SC, SC(A) and ST candidates for most posts, with Forester capped at 37 |
| Group 2 and 2A (2025) | Destitute widows, for most posts |
| Group 4 (2026) | Reserved-category candidates with a higher qualification, for most posts except VAO, Forest Guard and Forest Watcher |
| Group 4 (2026) | Reserved categories in several board and corporation posts; destitute widows in some of them |
For the Group 4 rule, see higher-qualification age relaxation.
What it does not change
- The minimum age. Group 2 2025 has a minimum of 18 for most posts, and some posts set more: 25 for Executive Officer Grade III, 26 or 22 for Probation Officer depending on the post, 21 for Forester.
- The qualification. Group 2 and 2A need a degree from a UGC-recognised university, with some posts adding conditions.
- The Others age limit. It stays, for example 32 for most posts in Group 2 2025.
- Other eligibility rules, such as the Tamil knowledge requirement or the bar on "Others" with five or more years of government service.
An example
In the Group 2 2025 recruitment the age limit for Others on most posts is 32. A 45-year-old BC graduate who meets the qualification and the minimum age can still apply for those posts, because BC candidates have no maximum limit. A 61-year-old cannot, because the limit is the completion of 60 years. A 45-year-old in the Others category with no other concession cannot apply, because 32 applies.
Cautions
- Always check whether your post is one of the exceptions, such as Forester at 37 in Group 2 2025.
- Read the footnotes to the age table, because the same phrase can sit beside a condition.
- Use the notification's date for counting age, as shown under age reckoning date.
The full tables are in TNPSC age limit and eligibility.
