TNPSC age limit calculator

To check your TNPSC age limit, pick the exam, post and community, enter your date of birth and tick any relaxation that applies. The calculator counts your age on the date the notification fixes (1 July 2026 for Group 4, 1 July 2025 for the Group 2 and Group 1 notifications it covers) and applies the highest limit that fits you.

Several numbers in a cell follow the column order Others, BC/MBC, SC/ST. The minimum age is 18 for most Group 4 posts (21 for VAO), 18 for most Group 2 and 2A posts (20 for Sub Registrar Grade II, 21 for Forester, whose reserved limit is 37) and 21 for Group 1.
"No maximum" means below 60. A maximum of 30 means you must not have completed 30 years on the reckoning date, so for Group 4 2026 you must be born on or after 2 July 1996.
Rules that catch people out
- Higher qualification. In Group 4 2026, reserved-category candidates (BC, BCM, MBC/DC, SC, SC(A), ST) with a qualification above the post's minimum, such as HSC or a degree for an SSLC-level post, have no maximum age. VAO, Forest Guard and Forest Watcher are excluded. The tool has a tick box for it.
- Posts with their own limits. Executive Officer Grade IV, Forest Guard, Forest Watcher and board or corporation posts differ, and destitute widows' limits vary by post. The tool says "check the notification" for these.
- Group 1. A B.L. degree adds one year for Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Taxes). PwBD candidates are not eligible for the Deputy Superintendent of Police post.
Worked examples
Example 1: one date of birth, two communities. A candidate born on 14 August 1994 applies for a Group 4 post such as Junior Assistant. On 1 July 2026 she is 31 years, 10 months and 17 days old. As a BC (OBCM) candidate the limit is 32 and she is eligible. As an Others candidate the limit is 30, which needs a birth date on or after 2 July 1996, so she is over it.
Example 2: Group 2. A candidate born on 20 February 1992 is 33 years, 4 months and 11 days old on 1 July 2025. As an Others candidate the limit is 32, so he is over it. As an MBC candidate there is no maximum for most posts, so he is within it.
Example 3: "check the notification". An Others candidate who is both a PwBD candidate and an ex-serviceman, and who is past the highest single limit (48), gets this message. The tool does not assume relaxations add up.
Which notification does this use?
Group 4 uses Notification No. 11/2026 (6 October 2026, exam on 10 January 2027). Group 2 and 2A and Group 1 use the 2025 notifications, whose age tables we have read. TNPSC's annual planner tentatively lists 2026 notifications for both, and each notification fixes its own reckoning date and limits. What is the age limit for TNPSC Group 4 2026?
For most posts, 30 for Others, 32 for BC(OBCM), BCM and MBC/DC, and 35 for SC, SC(A) and ST, counted on 1 July 2026. VAO is 40 for reserved categories. See the Group 4 notification summary.
Which date is used to calculate age?
The date written in the notification, not the date you apply or the exam date. For Group 4 2026 it is 1 July 2026.
Does TNPSC limit the number of attempts?
The notifications we read set no limit on attempts.
