Your TNPSC Group 4 score is 1.5 marks for every correct answer, minus 0.5 mark for every question you leave completely blank. A wrong answer costs nothing. Two gates apply on top: 60 out of 150 in Part A (the Tamil test) or Parts B and C are not evaluated, and 90 out of 300 overall to qualify. Enter your correct, wrong and blank counts for both halves of the paper below.

Part A: Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test (100 questions, 150 marks)
Parts B and C: General Studies and Aptitude (100 questions, 150 marks)

Enter the number of correct, wrong and blank questions for each part. Each part has 100 questions, so the three numbers in a part must add up to 100.

How the score is calculated

The calculator follows Notification No. 11/2026, for the Group 4 exam on 10 January 2027: 200 questions, 300 marks, 3 hours, answered on an OMR sheet.

ItemRule
Part A: Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test100 questions, 150 marks
Parts B and C: General Studies (75) and Aptitude and Mental Ability (25)100 questions, 150 marks
Correct answer1.5 marks
Wrong answerNo deduction
Option [E], "answer not known"Counts as an answer: no marks, no deduction
Question left completely blank0.5 mark deducted from the total
Part A gateAt least 40%, which is 60 out of 150
Minimum qualifying marks90 out of 300, for all communities

Part A marks count towards your rank as well as acting as a gate. The Group 4 exam pattern and marking scheme guides explain both in detail.

The blank rule and the Part A gate

Every OMR question has five bubbles: A to D, and [E]. Because a wrong answer is free and [E] is free, the only way to lose marks on a question you cannot solve is to leave it blank. Ten blanks cost 5 marks, so shade a guess or [E].

If Part A is below 60, Parts B and C are not evaluated at all. The calculator shows "gate not cleared" and what your Parts B and C marks would have been. It cannot settle one case: TNPSC deducts blank marks from the total, and we cannot tell whether they are also taken off Part A before the 60-mark check. If Part A is 60 or more before the blank deduction but below 60 after it, the tool says "borderline".

Worked examples

Example 1: a clear pass.

PartCorrectWrong or [E]BlankMarks
A80155120 − 2.5 = 117.5
B and C70282105 − 1 = 104
Total150437221.5 out of 300

Seven blanks cost 3.5 marks, and the total is above both gates.

Example 2: the gate fails. In Part A, 38 correct answers give 57 marks, below 60. Parts B and C are not evaluated, even if 90 correct answers there would have earned 135 marks.

Example 3: borderline. In Part A, 42 correct and 8 blank give 63 before the deduction and 59 after it.

What this score is not

It is not your rank. Selection depends on how your marks compare with other candidates for the same post and community, so 90 is only the floor. The cut-off guide explains how cut-offs are set, and the answer key guide shows how to count against TNPSC's tentative key. Two small deductions are not included: 0.5 mark for a missing left-thumb impression and 2 marks for a wrongly written register number on a non-personalised OMR sheet.

PrepMatic's full-length Group 4 mocks follow the real paper (200 questions in 180 minutes), and you can choose Tamil as your exam language. The result shows a subject-wise breakdown and the subject that cost you the most marks.

Frequently asked questions

How many marks is each question worth in TNPSC Group 4?

Each question carries 1.5 marks. Part A has 100 questions for 150 marks, and Parts B and C together have 100 questions for another 150 marks.

Is there negative marking in Group 4?

Not for wrong answers. However, 0.5 mark is deducted for every question left completely blank. Shading option [E] counts as an answer, so it avoids the deduction.

What happens if I score below 60 in Part A?

Your Parts B and C are not evaluated, however well you did in them. Part A must be at least 40%, which is 60 out of 150.
